The Hunter Legend 35 (built 1986-1989, ~450 hulls) is the direct predecessor to the hugely popular Legend 35.5 and one of the most important boats in Hunter's rise during the late 1980s. Designed by the Hunter Design Team under Cortland Steck, it measures 35 ft 7 in LOA with a very beamy 11 ft 9 in hull and a moderate displacement of 12,500 lbs (5,200 lbs ballast). It was offered with either a shoal-draft winged keel (4 ft 6 in) or deeper fin (5 ft 10 in). It introduced the full B&R backstay-less fractional rig on a 35-footer, carrying a large roachy mainsail (~330 sq ft) and 135-150 % roller-furling genoa (total upwind ~680-720 sq ft), giving genuinely lively performance for the era (PHRF typically 138-150). Stand-out features include wheel steering, one of the first production walk-through reverse transoms with sugar-scoop stern and swim platform under 36 ft, and an extraordinarily open interior: huge aft cabin with an athwartships double (almost queen-size), private forward V-berth, U-shaped galley, enclosed head with shower, nav station, and over 6 ft 2 in headroom - genuinely sleeping six in real comfort.
