A big boat that happens to be sixty-four feet.

Step aboard and what strikes you first is the volume. Seventeen feet four inches of beam on a 64'3" hull is a great deal of boat, and Horizon spent it where an owner actually lives — in the salon, in the galley, and above all in a full-beam master that would not look out of place on a yacht ten feet longer. This series was built for people who wanted the interior and the substance of a larger vessel without taking on crew to run it.

She is also, unmistakably, a proper motor yacht rather than a fast express boat wearing a flybridge. GRP hull and superstructure, twin Caterpillars on straight shafts, and the kind of engine-room access that makes an owner-operator's life simpler.

ACCOMMODATIONS — THREE STATEROOMS, AND ALL OF THEM REAL

Plenty of yachts this length advertise four cabins. What they rarely mention is that four cabins on a 62-foot hull means four small ones, and a master that is really just the biggest of them.

ISONDA takes the other road. Three staterooms, six guests, and a full-beam master that uses every inch of the 17'4" — the space and the privacy you would expect a size class up. Two further staterooms, a double and a twin, handle family and friends without anyone drawing the short straw. The salon is a room you can genuinely gather in rather than a corridor with sofas, and the galley is laid out to cook in, not merely to reheat.

MACHINERY — 2,800 HORSEPOWER, AND NOT A POD IN SIGHT

Twin Caterpillar 3412E diesels, 1,400 horsepower a side, turning conventional shafts.

That number deserves a moment. The standard engine for this platform was a pair of MANs at roughly 1,036 hp. ISONDA is the upgraded boat — 364 more horsepower per side, from an engine with a long industrial and commercial pedigree behind it. It is a block that yards understand, that mechanics from Stuart to Nassau have worked on their whole careers, and whose parts sit on a shelf in Florida rather than on an aeroplane from Europe.

The shafts matter just as much. Pod drives are clever and they are lovely at the dock, but they bring a service regime of their own — drive-unit intervals, seal service, haul-outs on the manufacturer's calendar, and a repair path that runs through a single supplier. A straight shaft and a Caterpillar are the opposite proposition: more of the boat can be fixed by more people, in more places, for less money, and the parts do not care what year it is.

Engine hours, service history and performance are documented and will be confirmed from the vessel's records and machinery displays.

WHY THIS RATHER THAN AN AZIMUT OR A FERRETTI

It is a fair question, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.

You are buying interior, not profile. The Italian yards build beautiful boats and they know how to draw a sheer line. But a 62-foot Azimut and a 62-foot Horizon are not the same amount of yacht. ISONDA's 17'4" beam and full-beam master put usable volume where an owner spends his time, and that difference is obvious within thirty seconds of stepping into the salon.

You are buying systems you can service anywhere.  European production yachts of this era can be expensive to keep — proprietary components, dealer-specific parts, and lead times measured from Italy. Caterpillar mains on straight shafts are the most supportable machinery arrangement in the Western Hemisphere. That is not a small thing when you are two hundred miles from home and the weather is turning.

You are buying a boat from a yard whose day job is bigger yachts. Horizon's core business is larger semi-custom vessels, and this series carries that thinking down into the sixties — GRP hull and superstructure, generous engine-room access, and construction meant to be surveyed rather than admired from the dock.

And the honest counterweight. The Italians have the badge, and badges have value at resale. ISONDA is a 2003, and she should be evaluated as one — in person, and by a surveyor you chose yourself. If the name on the transom is what matters most to you, buy the name. If what happens in the two years after the survey matters more, this is the boat to look at.

RECENT INVESTMENT

Since acquiring ISONDA in November 2024, the current owner has put substantial money into her — across mechanical equipment, exterior finishes and teak, electronics, and onboard systems. Not deferred maintenance dressed up as a refit, but work an owner does when he intends to keep a boat.

The invoices have been retained. Qualified buyers are welcome to review the documented work rather than take a generalized refit claim on trust, and an itemized schedule of completed service and improvements accompanies the listing file.
