1989 Hobie 21SE The Hobie 21SE was built as a race boat from 1987 to 1990. Designed to be raced by 2 -3 people with a top speed of 32 knots. This 1989 edition is in probably the best condition of any 21SE still available. The second owner is selling because it has become too much of a beast for him to handle single handed at 75 years old. There are very few blemishes on the hulls. The tramp. and seats are in very good condition. There is a 12v deep cycle battery in an enclosure that also contains a marine VHF radio, with an antenna mounted at the top of the 33 foot mast. Also in the enclosure is a GPS driven knot meter with 5" high, 7 segment LED Display. The reason for the 12v battery is to power a 55 lbs thrust trolling motor mounted on the back of the tramp. The motor rotates 90 degrees to get it out of the water while sailing. Besides the mainsail and the jib, there is also a Genoa, with a sock to cover it. You can have the Genoa mounted (attaches to the hulls in front of the jib) so it is available, without interfering with the jib. The main and jib were made by Precision Sails about 8 years ago and are in very good condition. The main is Red and White striped. The jib is dark blue with a circle of 13 white stars. Custom name graphic is "Spirit of '76". Turn heads and show patriotism this, the 250th anniversary of the USA. The rudders are clean, with virtually no knicks. The two dagger boards are also in good condition. The trailer is in very good condition and has box on it for storage of the sails and mast lifting pole. Normally raising the mast is a 3 person job. But there are a pair of electric winches on the trailer that replaces the two people needed to support the mast from falling sideways while raising/lowering the mast. The winches are powered by the same 12v battery for the trolling motor. There are two bolts protruding from the bottom of the battery box that a pair of battery clips attach too. There is a hand control box with 4 buttons that allow you to either extend or retract the cable from the winches in order to keep the mast centered on the boat as you raise it. All the hardware is in very good shape. The boat also includes an anchor with rode to moor the boat in deep water. There is also a custom cover that covers the hulls and tramp when not in use. Each seat, rudder and battery box also has a cover. A final cover is on the last 6 feet of the mast. The boat has a beam of 10 feet - the beam can be reduced to by unlacing the tramp, and the front and rear tramp arches will slide into the hulls, reducing the beam to about 8 feet. The trailer is designed to handle either width.
