PowerBoat Guide correctly notes that the 52' is "built in the Hatteras tradition of rugged, go-anywhere construction with the creature comforts of a wide-bodied luxury yacht. Built by one of America's premier yacht builders, she has the stately lines and distinct styling of a true classic in every sense of the word. Built on a modified-V hull with a relatively steep 14 degree dead rise at the transom and a long keel, she has excellent stability for island hopping or coastal cruising" and Encore is a prime example of the breed.
Kept in fresh water for much of her life, she shows very, very nicely today but the REAL story here might be the slip: she's lying downtown Sausalito in a potentially transferable Sausalito Yacht Harbor slip; there's waiting list of many years for a big slip in the marina here and Encore is in a primo spot right on the main turning basin with San Francisco sunrise and Mt. Tam sunset views, and a very short walk to the SF ferry dock.
Note that a boat with a big transferable slip in San Francisco recently sold for about a MILLION DOLLARS OVER actual value JUST to get the slip, and our weather is WAY better over here!
Air conditioned forward VIP stateroom with centerline walk-around double, cedar lined hanging locker and private ensuite head with stall shower. Up two steps aft to U shaped galley port side with raised dinette across to starboard.
Continue aft up two more steps to salon with built in C shaped settee port side with chair and flat screen TV starboard. From salon either, up four steps aft to deck or down five steps to accommodations consisting of guest head with stall shower port side and guest stateroom (currently used as a walk-in storage area) across starboard. Continue aft to air conditioned master stateroom with walk around queen bed angled athwartship with cedar lined hanging locker and private ensuite head with stall shower.
Aft deck is fully enclosed with glass side windows, comfortably furnished and climate controlled, and is generally the social center of the boat. From this deck, either up to flybridge which is also fully enclosed or down aft to cockpit with custom sole.
Note that the interior is light and airy, and shows practically as new (and the carpet is literally new as of June 2026), 6'6 headroom, joinery is blonde ash. Slip is located right in the heart of downtown Sausalito, is a very short walk to the San Francisco ferry, and has straight on sunset views of Mt. Tam!
Galley port side down two steps forward of the salon. Large stainless steel sink with one-touch Moen faucet and hot/cold pressure water, Whirlpool full size upright refrigerator/freezer, Kitchen Aid two burner cooktop, built in Sharp Caousel II microwave convection oven. Across from galley to starboard is raised dinette with newly covered cushions.
U-Line refregerator/icemaker on aft deck.
Three VacuFlush toilets.
Raymarine E120 chartplotter (2011, $6,000) interfaced with Raymarine ST8002 autopilot with cordless remote control (2001, $3,000), Furuno NAVnet C-Map NT color chartplotter with 48 mile radar overlay (2006, $6,000), Interphase Twin Scope forward and side scanning sonar, Data Marine Dart 2490 (depth finder and knot meter with trip log), Autohelm wind speed/direction indicator, Icom IC-M604 VHF, Icom IC-M57 VHF, Ritchie Powerdamp magnetic compass.
Sea Tel active tracking tv antennae system with three flat screen tvs and central A/V controller with audio system throughout.
220/110V AC / 12/24V DC. Fifty amp shorepower service with Glendinning Cablemaster system for the shorepower cord, Onan 20kW genset in soundshield gone through in late 2010 with a fine-toothed comb, smart inverter/charger, eight 8D batteries in two banks (four heavy duty wet cel for boat, four gel cel for inverter).
All wire and cable (regardless of applied voltage) is U.L. listed to 300 volts or more (often to 600 volts) to provide greater insulating protection, and all wire is tin-coated (to prevent corrosion) stranded copper (for improved flexibility) and sealed in an insulated jacket with anti-chafing protection on wires that penetrate bulkheads or stringers.
All Hatteras wiring harnesses are tie-wrapped every 6 inches and secured at least every 18 inches - even when these wires are concealed in wire trays and ducts. You'll find no loose wires just stuffed out of sight on a Hatteras. All wiring is color coded and numbered at each terminal end and well documented in the owner's manual.
Solid fiberglass bottom with PVC non-absorbent foam core in the hull sides and superstructure to deliver a high strength-to-weight ratio, "shoe box" fit of deck-to-hull joint provided by a four-part bonding process of adhesive caulking, fiberglass bonding inside, monel screws every 3 inches and a stainless-steel rub rail. All fiberglass stringer system--no structural plywood is used in Hatteras stringer--with athwartship stringers made of PVC core encapsulated in fiberglass and fiberglass ribs.
Engine beds are mounted to steel plates completely encapsulated in fiberglass stringers with anti-corrosive zinc plated bolts. Because Hatteras mounts the engines to the integrated stringer network instead of exposed corrosive I-beams, force is evenly distributed and vibration is reduced throughout the boat.
All primary thru-hull fittings are of anti-corrosive bronze embedded in solid fiberglass and all stanchions and cleats (316L stainless steel) are mechanically fastened, using aluminum backing plates encapsulated into the laminate with drilled and tapped backing plates.
Fiberglass hardtop over flybridge which is fully enclosed with isinglass and canvas and shows very nicely. Marquip Tender Lift 1500 hydraulic davit. Galley Maid BBWH electric windlass with controls on deck and flybridge, Fortress anchor on bow roller, 300' all chain rode.
Twin fresh water cooled Detroit Diesel 8V92TAs; they both had total in-frame overhauls ($50,000) in 2006, then the port engine was rebuilt again in 2017 after the head gasket failed ($24,000).
