BACKGROUND INFORMATION

In the world of yachting, MB-3 is the difference between buying a real "home" and buying a "beach cottage".

There are a lot of great yachts today that will work for long weekends in the Hamptons or a two-week cruise, but they were never intended for you and your family to spend 6-12 months at a time onboard.

What you will find when you tour MB-3 is that everything is bigger than most European designs - the cabins, the bathrooms, the main salon and dining area, and especially the upper deck because it's not uncommon for Hargrave owners to host 50+ friends at a cocktail party.

What you won't notice, because it's out of sight, is the huge amount of storage on this yacht. Let me give you a perfect example of what we mean by the word "huge" - the owner of the 100' Hargrave NAMASTE decided to move up to the next level in yachting and purchases a popular 130' Tri-Deck. It was a great boat, but he is stunned when his captain calls to tell him that they need to rent a storage space to handle all the stuff coming off his 100' Hargrave that won't fit on his new 130' yacht!

Why that matters is because when you are about to head down to remote locations like the Virgin Islands and beyond for a 6-month cruise you need to be able to take all the supplies you can carry that are not readily available in most places. Literally, when the crew is prepping for the voyage, one minute you look and there are cases and cases of suppliers from Costco sitting on the dock, and then magically they disappear inside the boat.

As you search for your dream boat online or you pour through the glossy boating magazines you can't help but notice the radical far-out designs that are so popular today. Usually, these breathtaking designs look great in magazines but are often textbook examples of "form over function" designs. They were intended primarily to catch the public's eye and judging by their sales success we agree it's a great business model!!

For experienced yachtsmen, however, while they are certainly fun to look at they just don't work for their intended use.

The 100' Hargrave Raised Pilothouse MB-3, like all Hargraves, was designed from the inside out. First, we created the floorplan so it was perfect for its intended use and then when that was signed off on by the owners we styled the profile while keeping resale value in mind. What is a "wow" design today is often looks really dated five years from now and takes a hit in value.

The 100' Hargrave MB-3 was designed from the keel up for chartering, and why that matters is because owners at this size range often want to have the opportunity to charter their boat and get the income and tax benefits that come with that option.

What works great in the charter industry will always work for family usage but yachts that were designed for family boating frequently don't work well in chartering as any experienced captain can tell you.

If your yacht does not work well for charter then it will wind up making your boat the second or third choice of the charter brokers who control the industry.
