Well-Equipped Gulfstar 41 Ketch - Perkins Diesel, Updated Portlights, Cruiser Ready
This 1973 Gulfstar 41 Center Cockpit Ketch, "Wind Junkie," is a well-equipped cruising sailboat with a solid reputation for offshore capability and a comfortable liveaboard layout.
Powered by a Perkins 4.108 diesel engine with less than 1,600 hours, the engine is known for its reliability and longevity and is reported by the seller to start and run well. The vessel is set up for practical cruising with a balanced ketch rig and manageable sail plan.
The sails and rigging are in good overall condition, with the standing rigging, chainplates, and running rigging inspected and replaced over time as needed. The genoa includes a sacrificial strip that may eventually need replacement, but the sail itself still has substantial life remaining, along with the rest of the sail inventory.
On deck, the boat has been thoughtfully upgraded for durability and safety. The lifelines are solid 316L stainless steel, offering increased strength and eliminating concerns associated with traditional cable corrosion. All lifeline stanchions are reinforced with stainless backing plates. The vessel also features premium New Found Metals stainless steel portlights with tempered glass, representing a significant upgrade.
The cockpit is set up with a highly functional and flexible enclosure system designed to provide protection from sun and rain while maintaining airflow. The clear panels are constructed from Makrolon, offering excellent optical clarity without the distortion commonly found in traditional materials. This setup allows for full use of sail controls while the enclosure is deployed and can be quickly adjusted as weather conditions change.
Below deck, the interior has seen ongoing improvements, including upgraded solid oak drawer fronts. Additional finish work is in progress, with plans for further wood paneling upgrades. The layout provides a comfortable center cockpit configuration with both forward and aft accommodations, suitable for extended cruising or liveaboard use.
Tank capacities include approximately 45 gallons of fuel, 60 gallons of fresh water, and a 15-gallon holding tank for the aft head. The forward head discharges overboard and includes a lockable system for compliance.
This Gulfstar presents a solid platform for cruising with meaningful upgrades already completed and additional interior enhancements underway.
