An iconic boat that needs no introduction, the Grand Banks 42 is easily the most successful trawler design ever produced. Although called a trawler, the Grand Banks does not have a trawler hull. Rather, she rides on a semi-displacement hull with a tall bow, hard chines, and a full keel which gives her a moderate 4'2" of draft. One of the most desirable features of the Grand Banks 42 is her roomy full-teak interior. Built with the galley forward to port in the salon, opposite the lower helm. The master stateroom is aft and came with a walkaround double berth and split head and shower compartments. The forward stateroom has V-berths. A sliding door at the helm provides deck access, and full walkaround decks make getting around easy and secure. Twin 120hp Ford Lehmans allow her to cruise at 9 to 10 knots.
Accommodation
Step aboard and you'll immediately appreciate the warmth and craftsmanship that made the Grand Banks 42 a cruising icon. Rich teak joinery, a teak parquet sole, and expansive salon windows create a bright and inviting living space that feels far larger than her 42 feet. The main salon features an L-shaped settee to starboard, a teak dining table with folding leaves, and a lower helm station to port, offering excellent visibility while underway and comfortable accommodations at anchor.
Forward, the galley is conveniently located within the main living area, allowing the chef to remain part of the conversation. Equipped with refrigeration, freezer space, a stove, oven, microwave, and generous storage throughout, it is well suited for extended cruising or full-time living aboard. Wide side decks and direct access from the salon make moving about the vessel easy and secure in all conditions.
Accommodations include a private forward guest stateroom with V-berths and an owner's stateroom aft featuring a comfortable double berth and abundant storage. Two heads serve the vessel, each with separate shower facilities, providing privacy and convenience for owners and guests alike. Whether cruising the Great Loop, exploring the Bahamas, or enjoying life aboard in your favorite marina, the Grand Banks 42 delivers a layout that remains one of the most practical and comfortable ever designed.
