BALMY brings together the best of both worlds: classic Grand Banks craftsmanship and the performance to cover serious distances in comfort and style. Its signature "express" design offers exceptional versatility for all-weather cruising, a feature experienced owners can truly appreciate.
Powered by twin 420 hp Caterpillar 3126TA diesel engines, the 38 Eastbay EX delivers a top speed approaching 30 knots, making longer passages faster and more enjoyable. Equally impressive, she tracks confidently in a variety of sea conditions and maneuvers with ease in tight quarters.
Her exterior reflects the unmistakable Grand Banks heritage. Traditional lines, accented by a handsome varnished toerail, are complemented by wide, nonskid side decks and substantial stainless steel grab rails for added security underway. The raised helm deck provides excellent visibility and a thoughtfully arranged helm station, while an electro-hydraulic hatch makes engine-room access remarkably convenient.
Inside, the 38 Eastbay EX showcases the quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that define the Grand Banks name. The well-appointed galley to port offers generous counter space and storage, making extended stays aboard both comfortable and practical. Opposite, the inviting saloon features a beautifully crafted teak table surrounded by a comfortable three-sided settee. The table lowers to create a double berth, providing flexible accommodations for overnight guests. Forward, the private stateroom features a comfortable double island berth.
The Grand Banks 38 Eastbay EX blends speed, seaworthiness, comfort, and enduring craftsmanship-an exceptional choice for the discerning owner who wants to cruise farther, travel faster, and enjoy every mile.
The Caterpillar 3100 series engines dominated the marine industry in the early 1990s. These four-stroke, in-line six-cylinder powerplants outperformed any other engine at the time. Their reputation was supported by an outstanding service support system. The 3126TA debuted in late 1995, replacing the 3116 with higher horsepower and slightly larger displacement. The 3116 and 3126 were often compared because both are in-line six-cylinder engines with a similar appearance; however, the 3116 has 1.1 liters per cylinder (6.6L displacement). The model number 3116 translates to (3100 series/ 1.1 liters per cylinder, 6-cylinder), and the 3126 has 1.2 liters per 6 cylinders that equals (7.2L displacement). Grand Banks offered the mechanical 3126TA from 1996 to 2002, and it was a huge success due to its dimensions and available horsepower ratings. From 2003 onward, the 3126's fuel system became electronically controlled, and it was reclassified as the 3126B. Caterpillar changed its model identification in 2006, renaming the engine the C-7, and production continued until 2009.

In a world that's two-thirds liquid, you need a rock-solid engine. There's a lot of history inherent in every Cat engine. It's a history of over 75 years of diesel engine progress. Caterpillar engine development is about tighter tolerances, advanced materials, and sophisticated component designs that maximize combustion efficiency. There's a lot of value in Cat engines. No matter how many technical advances it incorporates, Caterpillar has always stayed true to diesel power's core advantages: higher power, lower fuel consumption, reliability, durability, and ease of service.

The performance data cannot be guaranteed due to load conditions and sea state; these are only estimates
- Sharp entry forward keeps pounding to a minimum
- No deep forefoot to cause bow steering and/ or broaching
- V-shape is carried all the way to the transom, which results in a stable platform
- Design factors make the hull travel straight over seas with moderate steering effort
- Handling characteristics are a major safety advantage when running down waves or entering rough inlets
- A high chine forward and spray strips knock down spray, adds lift and reduces wetted surface
- Dry boat, reduced resistance, greater speed, and increased economy
- A widely flared forward topsides creates buoyancy and reduces the potential for burying the bow
- At planing speeds hull gains stability and minimizes rolling
- High-dead-rise V-shape is inherently more stable.
- The V shape allows the hull to bank in a turn, not roll outward like a round- or flat-bottomed hull.
- At displacement speeds the deep v hull has more draft than the typical planing hull, so it behaves more like a displacement hull
- Northern Lights 5kw diesel generator (M673L33) 1039 hours 10/26
- Victron Energy Multi Plus charger inverter
- Pro Mariner Pro Sport HD battery charger
- (4) AGM 8D batteries (5/23)
- (1) AGM Group 24 generator battery (8/23)
- Crompton Instruments AC volt & AC amp meters
- VAH110 DC monitor
- Zinc Saver III galvanic isolator
