Soft Touch is a 64 ' Grand Alaskan Pilothouse, which means compared to the 60' model,it has two additional feet in the main salon, and aft deck area, and correspondingly has two feet more length in the engine room and Lazerette. The additional volume gained is substantial, as rather than just adding length to the aft end of the mold which usually results in a diminished beam, for this extra footage, the additional section of the hull is added well forward to maximize volume. From the stern the yacht has an integrated swim platform with optional teak and easy access from the swim platform with integrated molded steps and opening rear gate. Additionally three stainless steel U shaped railings on the swim platform provide safety, and also are designed to be removed for installation of the stainless steel swim ladder which also is stored on a custom mount on the swim platform . The aft deck is large, and was designed for multipurpose use, both for entertaining and for occasional fishing. A fiberglass aft deck cabinet houses controls gladdening electronic controls for the main engines and both thruster,, icemaker, sink, storage, and VHF, on the starboard size is a full height custom cabinet recently added by the owner. A custom center fighting chair stored in the Lazerette, can be installed quickly for fishing, and an extended canvas top from the overhead which gives protection from rain or sun can be pulled back to allow fishing. Two additional stainless rod holders are installed on both the port and starboard sides of the aft deck/cockpit area. There is fresh water wash down, non skid deck, opening port and starboard gate doors, and high gloss varnished cap rails on top of bulwarks that go completely around the yacht's walk around decks and adjoin a Portuguese Bridge with opening gate. The original forward seat on the large foredeck on the bow has been modified to produce substantial quantities of ice and could also be used as an additional freezer. The dual Maxwell 3500 windlass, has opening access doors both port and starboard, which is a recent feature added by the owner, and creates two separate storage areas for the lengthy chain, and prevents tumbling. The high gloss dark green hull shines in like new condition, as does the white superstructure, and fender tracks port and starboard insure easy protection at the dock.
On entering the salon from double opening doors on the aft deck, the salon is large with a many custom features as a result of a very extensive decorator upgrade, when the yachts was commissioned. At the aft end of the salon a very clever custom designed teak table for the aft deck is disguised cleverly in a folded position in the aft starboard corner of the salon, and serves as a bar counter, with custom cabinetry above for glass storage. Moving forward on the starboard side are two custom designer chairs, and a teak entertainment center with Color television, vcr, DVD, and Bose sound system, is located between these comfortable chairs. On the port side a large L shaped sofa in high grade leather was built with storage compartments below. A beautiful table sits in front of the couch and a custom teak cabinet with lamp is forward of it. The salon has custom blinds and curtains, plush carpeting with soundproofing underlay, overhead halogen lights, and large fixed windows. Three are four cube Bose speakers, which provide great sound and there is a mounted Panasonic cordless phone and separate intercom system.Ahead and to starboard is a day head with corian counters, teak and holly floors, and large window with blinds. At the forward end of the salon, as it meets the galley a granite counter was attached, and two custom stools installed for casual dining.
The large galley which adjoins the salon has full size dishwasher, trash compacter, oversized double door opening Fridge/Freezer, convection microwave, 4 burner stovetop, corian/aconite counters, great cabinet storage, large window, and teak and holly sole. A custom teak glass cabinet was added in the U.S. and as there are no overhead cabinets between the salon and galley, the large open area has an enhanced larger feel to it. A pantry just opposite the galley is full height with large deep storage compartments.
A high gloss varnished handrail adjoins a wide staircase which descends with just a few steps into a large master amid ships with King berth. On the port side drawer storage, leads to a vanity area, with a 20" color TV/VCR, and a hinged teak computer stand was built as part of the construction details. The bed coverings, pillow, and window treatments were part of the designer decor package. built in night stands have corian/avonite tops, there is additional drawer berth storage below the berth. a custom mattress, a hanging locker to port, and to starboard is a very large hanging locker, which can accommodate substantial clothing. A separate telephone and intercom, are in this area, and a large framed picture above the berth has reading lights on either side. Opening stainless ports provide great natural light and there is halogen lighting with controls at the head of the bed and entrance into the master for convenience. There is also access to the engine room behind a teak door, which reveals a dogged watertight door with viewing window, which allows for convenient observation while underway. The ensuite head is large, with opening port, framed mirror, large shower stall, corian/avonite counter, and halogen lighting.
From the Galley, up three steps is a very large Pilothouse, with thirty seven percent more volume than a 55' Fleming Pilothouse with opening port and starboard doors, built in large L shaped seating in a leather which matches the high back Ricardo helm chair. The high low hinged teak table sits ahead of the built in seating and there is significant storage below and to the starboard side of the seating. There is a teak and holly flooring, large chart drawers, and a very extensive electronics package which of course includes the usual high quality Radar, Autopilot, GPS Plotter, Satellite systems, and also a flat screen from the computer and camera monitor.
Moving forward from the Pilothouse and down a wide staircase brings you to two very similar guest quarters both port and starboard with long, wide upper and lower berth staterooms, and a large head with shower between the two cabins. Both staterooms have large hanging lockers, opening ports, drawer storage below the lower berth, intercom, window treatments, halogen lights etc. The head had corian/avonite counters, and also has a unique access to the forward crews quarters, or four cabin. While the yacht lacks a VIP queen berth stateroom, she has accommodation for eight, which is unique in a Pilothouse yacht of this size. The crew cabin, or fourth stateroom is also accessed from a large opening hatch on the bow, with a stainless steel ladder which leads to the two berth cabin with separate head and shower, cabinet storage, and opening ports.
From the Pilothouse, an interior stairway on the starboard side with a sink, leads to a huge fly bridge with sink, icemaker, and grill to starboard, two large pedestal helm sated, built in L shaped seating, with fiberglass high low table, and new complete enclosure and half tower with soft top. An extensive electronics package, gives complete information equivalent to the Pilothouse, and there is a custom freezer, deck box storage, low rise davit and 12' Novurania with 30hp Johnson. The entire area is in like new condition as is the rest of the yacht. The area that houses the tender is separated from the seating area and an open expense of the fly bridge deck to allow for sun lounging.
The engine room, which can be entered from a large opening hatch on the afterdeck/cockpit area is entered just ahead of a very large oversized Lazerette as this is a 64' model. The Lazarette houses a full size washer and dryer, air conditioning compressors, water maker, spares, etc. The, entry from the Lazerette in to the engine room is via a water tight door with opening viewing window. The engines, generators, stabilizers, and all other systems are easily accessed without internal entry into the accommodation space of the yacht for privacy and security, however there is an additional water tight door and locking teak door in the master. Twin 5Kw C power cruising alternators allow operation without the use of either 16kw generator on most occasions, and additional batteries specified by the owner are housed in this area. The owners background in the production of multi million dollar helicopters, follow similar patterns in his maintenance for his mechanical equipment which include not only replacement of fuel and oil filters at intervals well in advance of manufacturers specifications, and include such items as complete dismantlement and cleanings on the entire fuel filter systems on regular intervals, rather than just filter replacements.
