Galeon 450 HTC: BoatTEST Review
Overview
In sunny South Florida, we conducted a detailed features review of two new models from Gallion: the 44-foot Four 40 Fly and the 45-foot Four 50 HTC. Gallion designed these boats for boaters transitioning from smaller day boats to cabin cruisers, yet not quite ready to step into a full motor yacht. The Four 40 Fly features a flybridge, while the Four 50 HTC offers a sportier profile without a flybridge but includes a large sunroof.
Interior Living Spaces
Inside the salon, the main difference between the Four 40 Fly and the Four 50 HTC is the flybridge stair cutout in the former, which slightly reduces headroom. Both models feature ample storage above and below, with the electrical panel repositioned in the Four 50 HTC. The Four 50 HTC’s standout feature is an 88-inch-wide sunroof controlled from the helm. The salon includes large vertical windows with fabric mullions and manual shades to mitigate heat. A C-shaped dinette on the starboard side seats four comfortably, with cup holders and connectivity points for laptops and phones. The dining table has a leaf extension allowing seating for up to six, and it converts into an additional berth. Seating is upholstered in fabric for comfort, with opposing seats and a high-low pedestal table accompanied by a TV. Under-seat storage is cleverly integrated without compromising headroom below. Ambient rectangular soffit lighting and indirect floor lighting enhance evening ambiance. The flooring is gray laminate, and the galley is raised by two steps with rounded corners and pebble-textured surfaces. The galley includes a sink with dedicated cover storage, a waste bin, dual electric cooktop, convection microwave, refrigeration, a small icebox, and a deep pantry. A 46-inch-wide window opens to the exterior, enhancing ventilation and light.
Private Accommodations
Both models offer two or three-cabin layouts; the test boats were equipped with two staterooms and two heads. The forward cabin features a scissor-style bed that can separate into two individual berths, facilitating easier bed-making and versatile sleeping arrangements. The cabin includes a vanity with mirror, USB outlets, and bedside storage with lips to prevent items from falling underway. Three windows with a central opening hatch provide natural light, and a large hanging locker offers 29 inches of interior width. Large hull-side windows afford excellent views underway or at anchor. The en suite head is spacious for a 44-foot boat, with an electric toilet, sink, storage, and a walk-in shower equipped with a rain showerhead. The head also serves as a day head via companionway access. The full-beam midship cabin offers 6 feet 9 inches of headroom at the centerline bed, which is somewhat narrow but sufficient for changing. A large hanging locker with a lighted bar is located on the starboard side. The master en suite provides 6 feet 3 inches of headroom, an electric flush toilet, ample storage, and a full walk-in shower with a wand and rain showerhead.
Exterior Design and Features
The Four 40 Fly is equipped with a hydraulic swim platform finished in teak, extending onto the transom for a refined look. Measuring 12.5 by nearly 5 feet, the platform accommodates a small tender or personal watercraft. The transom includes a summer kitchen with an electric grill, sink with tap, cutting board with drainage basin, and additional countertop space. Large storage compartments below hold fenders and lines. Boarding gates slide out rather than fold, though they could extend lower for added security underway. A three-step teak-finished boarding ladder is present. The boat’s beam extends to nearly 20 feet, with teak on the platforms and etched glass windows providing non-skid surfaces and water views. Wide sliding doors open fully to merge indoor and outdoor spaces. The aft seating features an adjustable backrest and swiveling seat to integrate with cockpit seating. The cockpit table extends to 63 inches and features a star design in the fiberglass. A bolster flips backward to provide excellent starboard-side views in beach mode. Forward on deck, boarding gates on both sides lead to a large sunbed that accommodates three to four people. Adjustable backrests allow for upright or reclined positions, and a hidden lift-up backrest reveals a small settee for casual seating.
Flybridge
The flybridge is the most significant distinction between the Four 40 Fly and the Four 50 HTC. For a 44-foot boat, the flybridge is notably spacious. The table extends to 91 inches and can be partially lifted to facilitate helm access. The seating forms a large C-shaped lounge with additional companion seats on the port side, ensuring the captain is not isolated. The flybridge galley features a sink basin, dedicated bamboo cutting board storage, ample workspace, storage beneath the sink, and a refrigerator. With the Bimini deployed, the flybridge offers 7 feet 5 inches of headroom. A storm door separates the flybridge from the cockpit, allowing enjoyment of the outdoors even in inclement weather.
Conclusion
The Gallion Four 40 Fly and Four 50 HTC present versatile options for boaters seeking a comfortable cabin cruiser experience without stepping into a full motor yacht. Both models offer well-thought-out interior layouts with flexible accommodations, ample storage, and quality finishes. The Four 40 Fly’s expansive flybridge and hydraulic swim platform enhance outdoor living, while the Four 50 HTC’s sunroof and sporty profile appeal to those favoring a sleek design. These vessels are well suited for small families or groups planning extended cruising, such as trips to the Bahamas, providing a balanced blend of comfort, functionality, and style.
