Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The Galleon 420 Fly is a versatile yacht available in both two and three cabin layouts, distinguished by its exceptional fit and finish. Designed for both comfort and functionality, this yacht offers a range of features that enhance its usability and appeal for cruising and entertaining.

Exterior Design and Deck Layout

Boarding the yacht is facilitated via a swim platform equipped with a hydraulic extension that extends four feet. To starboard, a concealed reboarding ladder is available, while to port, a set of stairs automatically deploys as the platform lowers. Access to the cockpit is through a port-side entryway secured by an acrylic gate for safety. The cockpit features L-shaped seating that can be adjusted to expand space or converted into a sun pad. The design allows for seamless transition by sliding open doors that create an open flow between the cockpit and adjacent areas. Additional seating can be added by swinging out a seat and using a filler cushion to create wraparound seating. Forward on the bow, two sun pads are convertible into chaise lounges, enhancing relaxation options. The flybridge is accessed via stairs on the port side of the cockpit and is well-appointed for entertaining, featuring J-shaped seating around the stern with a pedestal table, an electric grill to port, a sink with storage and refrigerator to starboard, and a double-wide bench seat with a sun pad forward. The entire flybridge area is protected by a bimini top with robust hardware, providing comfort and safety.

Interior Living Spaces

Inside, the salon offers ample headroom and is finished with Alcantara suede ceilings and high-quality materials that reflect the brand's attention to detail. Seating includes a reversible seat that increases space behind an expandable J-shaped seating area with an inlaid table featuring flush hinges. The table can be lowered and combined with a filler cushion to create an additional berth. Large side windows provide excellent visibility and natural light. Opposing seating enhances the conversational atmosphere and can be adjusted to accommodate more diners. A TV is mounted on an electric lift for convenience. Thoughtful design elements include leather inlays on seating and stainless steel-edged shelves that transform otherwise unused spaces into practical storage. The galley, located on the lower deck, is equipped with a convection oven, double burner electric stove, double basin stainless steel sink with a dedicated cover storage, refrigerator and freezer, and ample storage including pull-out drawers integrated into the stair treads. The galley features walnut and maple flooring that complements the darker walnut cabinetry and Corian countertops. Drop-down windows on both sides provide ventilation and additional light. An optional main deck galley layout is available, which allows for a three-stateroom configuration.

Private Accommodations

The master stateroom is located fully forward and benefits from abundant natural light through hull side windows and a seven-foot-long overhead skylight, providing generous headroom of 3 feet 8 inches at the center. The berth measures 6 feet 9 inches in length and is surrounded by ample storage, including under-berth compartments. A conveniently positioned vanity is located to port. The stateroom exhibits the brand's signature quality with solid wood doors, matching grain finishes, and stainless hardware. The ensuite head includes a walk-in shower, electric flush toilet, recessed sink with solid surface countertop, and storage behind. It also features a hull side window with an opening port light and flush-mounted mirrors, all finished with two-tone walnut, stainless steel hardware, and Alcantara suede accents. The guest stateroom offers 6 feet 3 inches of headroom at entry with variable geometry inside, featuring two single berths that can be combined into a larger berth with a filler cushion. Storage includes a hanging locker near the door. Adjacent to the guest cabin is a day head with wet head facilities, hull side windows with opening port lights, Corian counters with vessel sink, storage, and an electric flush toilet, all consistent with the yacht's high-quality woodwork.

Conclusion

The Galleon 420 Fly exemplifies the brand's commitment to superior fit and finish combined with practical and versatile design. Its thoughtful layout, quality materials, and attention to detail create a comfortable and functional yacht suitable for both entertaining and extended cruising. The two or three cabin options further enhance its adaptability to owner preferences, making it a well-rounded choice in its class.
