Other Fountain boats for sale in California, United States
Reggie Fountain has been building high perfomance boats since the late 70s. His boats are known for race bred hull designs, and solid construction. However, not everyone is a hard core racer, so in the 90s Fountain introduced the 38 Sport Cruiser. It is built on the same hull as the 38 Lightning & Fever offshore race models, but comes with more creature comforts.
This particular boat had its engines replaced about 5 years ago by Teague Custom Marine, who installed two Mercury Racing 500 EFi units. They have been well maintained every since by a good local mechanic, and have very low hours.
The boat sits on a Hydrahoist that may be included with the purchase, in a slip that can transfer with marina approval.
It's also very well priced by a motivated seller, so it will go fast.

Design and Aesthetics: With its sleek lines and sporty profile, the Fountain 38 boasts a striking appearance. The classic Fountain design combined with modern touches makes it an eye-catching vessel on any waterway.
Spacious Interior: Despite its sporty nature, the interior of the 38 Sport Cruiser is surprisingly spacious and well-appointed. It offers comfortable accommodations for overnight trips, including a well-designed cabin with sleeping areas, a galley, and a head.
Versatility: This model serves multiple purposes, functioning effectively as both a day cruiser and an overnight boat. Its versatility makes it suitable for various activities, from entertaining guests to weekend getaways.
Quality Construction: Fountain boats are known for their exceptional build quality and attention to detail. The 38 Sport Cruiser features a robust hull that provides stability and durability, ensuring a reliable ride in different sea conditions.
Cons
Fuel Consumption: The powerful engines that provide exhilarating performance can also lead to higher fuel consumption. This can be a consideration for those who want to use the boat for longer cruises or are concerned about operating costs.
Age-Related Wear: As a 1996 model, potential buyers may need to consider maintenance and wear-and-tear issues. Depending on how well it has been taken care of, there might be a need for updates or repairs, particularly regarding the mechanical and electrical systems.
Limited Storage: While the interior space is generous for a sport cruiser, storage options may be somewhat limited compared to larger models. This can make it challenging for longer trips or if more gear needs to be accommodated.
Handling in Rough Waters: Although designed for performance, the aggressive hull shape may not be as forgiving in choppy conditions as more traditional cruising vessels. Those less experienced in handling high-performance boats may need additional caution.
Availability of Parts: Given the boat's age, some parts may be harder to find, which can complicate repairs or upgrades. Buyers should be prepared for potential sourcing challenges regarding specific components. ### Conclusion The 1996 Fountain 38 Sport Cruiser strikes an admirable balance between performance and comfort, making it a popular choice for water enthusiasts. While it delivers on speed and style, prospective owners should weigh the associated costs and potential need for upkeep to ensure a rewarding ownership experience.
