Fairline Targa: BoatTEST Review

Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The Fairline Targa 65 GT represents a bold new design direction for the Targa lineup and the Fairline brand as a whole. Designed by the Italian firm Alberto Mancini, this model has already garnered significant interest, with 12 orders placed during its development phase. The yacht was delivered to North America through Total Marine in Norwalk, Connecticut, marking its debut on this continent.

Exterior Design and Aft Deck

Boarding begins at the aft platform, which extends nearly six feet from the transom, with a hydraulic section of over four feet. Raised sides and substantial cleats provide secure mooring options, including facilities for a dinghy or personal watercraft. The platform design incorporates multiple seating levels, creating a versatile social area akin to an oceanside swimming spa. Additional features include a flip-out rumble seat with beverage holders, a thoughtfully integrated freshwater shower with adjustable head, and a reboarding ladder with convenient grab handles. Access to the aft deck is through gated stairs on either side, with an optional electric passerelle for med mooring on the port side. The aft deck itself hosts a U-shaped sofa with diamond stitching and leg supports, surrounding a natural teak table. Storage beneath the seating is extensive, running the full length of the sofa. Overhead, an extended hardtop and electrically actuated awning provide shade, with optional support poles for stability during underway use. A carbon fiber flagstaff adds a refined touch. To starboard, an outdoor galley includes an electric grill, sink, ice maker, and refrigerator, with well-considered safety features such as a kill switch and stainless steel protector. The port side houses controls for the passerelle, underwater lighting, and deck illumination. The standard teak decking enhances the luxurious feel.

Main Deck Interior and Galley

The galley is positioned aft yet remains central to the main gathering spaces. It features a C-shaped layout maximizing counter space and storage, with a white Avenite countertop designed with large radius corners for safety and comfort underway. American black walnut cabinetry provides a sophisticated contrast. The galley includes a covered sink with a pull-out faucet, a four-burner Bosch induction cooktop with overhead venting, a dishwasher, convection microwave, and ample drawer and cabinet storage, including specialized holders for table settings. The full-size refrigerator complements the space. The flooring is American white oak overlaid with cork for sound absorption, contributing to a quieter cabin environment. Opposite the galley is a low Avenite sideboard with walnut and glass cabinetry, featuring racks for whiskey tumblers and optional stemware etched with the Fairline logo. A diagnostic screen for the air handlers is discreetly integrated here, allowing for climate control adjustments and power management.

Salon and Outdoor Bow Area

The salon forward presents a striking interior with a combination of dark wood, white vinyl upholstered bulkheads, and high-gloss ebony macasa panels. The American white oak decking continues here, and the low windowsills afford expansive views and abundant natural light. Seating includes a starboard couch and a port U-shaped settee surrounding a high-gloss American black walnut table with a flip leaf for pass-through access. Furniture is mounted off the deck, with storage beneath cushions and courtesy lighting below. A 48-inch TV on an electric lift is positioned behind the sofa. An electrically actuated sunroof with concealed shades provides ventilation and natural light, maintaining a watertight seal when closed. Opening windows and an aft drop-down window further enhance the indoor-outdoor connection. Designer Mancini’s signature white vertical light strips are incorporated on the overhead, creating an Art Deco ambiance at night. At the bow, a centerline walkthrough over the master stateroom sunroof leads to a social area with sun lounges, a wraparound sofa, and a deployable solid wood table. Beverage holders and a removable sky canopy add to the comfort and functionality. Covered storage is abundant, and cushions are protected by a full-area cover for inclement weather.

Private Accommodations

Below deck, accessed via a center companionway trimmed with diamond-pattern stitching, the yacht offers four staterooms accommodating eight guests, with three full heads featuring separate showers. Alternative layouts include replacing the fourth stateroom with a dayhead and washer-dryer or expanding the VIP stateroom with a larger head, desk, and chest of drawers. The full-beam master stateroom aft centers on a motion-minimizing centerline berth. Its design combines upholstered and mirrored tiles with American black walnut accents, high ceilings, and large hull-side windows with opening ports. A built-in loveseat, vanity with pull-out stool, chest of drawers, and soft-close storage drawers enhance comfort and functionality. Lighting is thoughtfully integrated with recessed and touch-activated reading lights. The master head features an Avenite countertop, recessed ceramic sink, high-gloss black walnut cabinetry, polished Avenite decking, and a walk-in shower with rainfall and wand fixtures, seating, and extractor fan. Soundproofing is exceptional, with over six inches of sound-deadening materials between the engine room and master bathroom, resulting in remarkably low noise levels even at full throttle. Plumbing is routed to avoid disturbing the cabin sole, and the generator operates quietly. Door hardware is ergonomically designed with recessed latches and magnetic closure. Refrigerated drawers outside the master stateroom can be configured for laundry or wine storage. The forward VIP stateroom includes an island berth with illuminated steps, hull-side windows with opening ports, a skylight with blackout shade, and extensive storage with lighted hanging lockers and drawers. Its en-suite head doubles as a day head with companionway access. Additional guest staterooms feature side-by-side and over-under berths with private en-suite facilities.

Conclusion

The Fairline Targa 65 GT blends Italian design flair with meticulous craftsmanship and thoughtful functionality. Its elegant interiors, versatile social spaces, and high level of fit and finish establish it as a compelling new model in the Fairline range. The collaboration with naval architects Vrypak promises well-mannered handling underway, complementing the yacht’s aesthetic and comfort. This model signals a new era for Fairline, combining beauty, comfort, and performance in a modern luxury yacht.
