Overview
The Donzey 41 GT represents a new category of upscale luxury day boats from Donzey, a brand with a rich heritage dating back to 1964 and founder Don Aronow, a legend in offshore racing. This 41-foot vessel, nearly 10 feet in beam, is designed to combine speed, style, and entertainment potential. The 41 GT can be powered by Mercury Verado 400R 4-stroke engines in twin or triple configurations, offering substantial horsepower and advanced technology for high performance.
Exterior Design and Deck Layout
The Donzey 41 GT features a muscular double-Z-step hull that delivers a sleek and aggressive offshore racer profile. Its 9-foot 8-inch beam on a 41-foot hull creates a long, lean bow with low-slung gunwales that extend from stern to bow, emphasizing its racing heritage. The foredeck includes a recessed grab rail along the centerline and pull-up cleats on either side of the bow, complemented by an anchor through-hull striker plate for protection. The cockpit is designed for comfort and utility, with a continuous single-level sole extending from the swim platform to the cabin, providing solid footing throughout. The cockpit houses port and starboard aft-facing chaise lounges with padded bolsters and ample storage beneath, including compartments for fenders and scuba tanks. Between the lounges are lockers with flush-mount hardware and battery storage, supporting a triple battery bank for triple-engine setups. Forward seating consists of twin L-shaped lounges with storage, separated by a 33-inch open space, and equipped with speakers, charging ports, and drink holders integrated into the bulwarks. Additional amenities include a refrigerated drawer and a countertop with a recessed sink and pressurized fresh water.
Helm and Command Center
The helm area embraces a modern glass cockpit concept, featuring a 9-inch Garmin display alongside a 5-inch Mercury VesselView display beneath the windshield. The helm is equipped with a bank of illuminated accessory switches, a tilt-mounted Gussi Sport steering wheel connected to a hydraulic C-Star steering system, and Mercury digital throttle and shift controls housed in a recessed bulwark area. The helm seats are finished with padded, double-stitched all-weather material and include flip-up bolsters for comfort and versatility. The custom 3-quarter-inch acrylic windscreen offers sturdy protection and excellent visibility. Additional features include multiple grab handles, beverage holders, charging ports, and high-quality JL audio speakers integrated into the bulwark recesses, all reflecting Donzey's attention to detail and fit and finish.
Interior Living Spaces
Below deck, accessed via a locking hatch between the helm seats, the cabin offers a headroom clearance of 4 feet 7 inches and is lined with fiberglass-reinforced plastic for durability and ease of maintenance. The cabin comfortably seats 6 to 8 people on well-padded wraparound settees. To starboard, a designer glass sink is set into a solid-surface countertop with pressurized fresh water supplied from a 30-gallon tank. Storage compartments are located above and below the sink. A concealed head is located beneath the filler between the port and starboard seating areas, providing privacy and convenience in a compact space.
Power and Performance
Our test boat was equipped with a triple Mercury Verado 400R setup, each engine being a 2.6-liter inline six-cylinder with supercharged cold air intake, charged air cooling, and electronic boost pressure control. Power-adjustable jack plates allow independent height adjustment for each engine, optimizing performance and ride quality. The test boat featured 26P Bravo 1 FS four-bladed props, contributing to a smooth and stable ride even in 1 to 2 foot seas with 20 to 25 knot winds. Performance testing recorded a top speed of 81 miles per hour at 7,000 RPM. The most efficient cruise was at 4,000 RPM, averaging 39.4 miles per hour while consuming 24.8 gallons per hour, yielding 1.6 miles per gallon and a range of approximately 430 statute miles with a 10% fuel reserve in the 300-gallon HD aluminum EPA-compliant fuel tank. Acceleration was brisk, reaching 20 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds and 30 miles per hour in 7.2 seconds. The boat demonstrated excellent handling and responsiveness, with hydraulic steering and trim tab controls enhancing maneuverability, including in close quarters during docking.
Construction and Certification
The Donzey 41 GT's solid and powerful ride is supported by advanced construction techniques, including a composite and fiberglass-reinforced plastic stringer grid, bonded deck, and composite-cored high-density hull sides. These structural elements contribute to the boat's rigidity and durability, which are perceptible during operation. The vessel has received NMMA ABYC certification, ensuring compliance with industry safety and quality standards. Additional style elements such as LED navigation, courtesy, cockpit, and RGB underwater lighting enhance the boat's aesthetic appeal without affecting performance.
Conclusion
The Donzey 41 GT successfully blends high-performance offshore racing heritage with upscale luxury and practical day-boat amenities. Its triple Mercury Verado 400R powertrain delivers impressive speed, acceleration, and handling, while the thoughtfully designed cockpit and cabin spaces provide comfort and utility for entertaining and extended outings. The boat's robust construction and certification underscore its reliability and seaworthiness. Overall, the Donzey 41 GT stands out as a capable and stylish big-water sport boat that meets the demands of discerning enthusiasts seeking both performance and refinement.
