Cypress Cay Cayman 250: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The Cypress Cay Cayman 250 is an upscale water sports boat designed to blend performance with luxury. This model aims to provide a comfortable and practical experience for water sports enthusiasts while incorporating thoughtful amenities and refined design elements.

Exterior Features and Swim Platform

Starting at the stern, the swim platform is divided into two sections measuring approximately two feet four inches by two feet seven inches. It is equipped with a robust tow rail and a centrally located tow hook, catering specifically to water sports activities. On the starboard side, a four-step re-boarding ladder with wide steps and handles ensures comfortable and safe access back on board. This ladder is positioned within the captain's line of sight for added safety. Additionally, underwater LED lights are installed at the aft end of the tubes, enhancing visibility and ambiance. The sun pad on the aft deck is designed to accommodate a water sports tube, secured by hooks on either side for a cargo net. The sun pad measures five feet three inches by two feet and conceals a convenient changing room underneath. The gate adjacent to the sun pad opens inward and features a secondary stop to prevent accidental opening, contributing to secure boarding.

Cockpit and Helm Layout

The main cockpit area features a comfortable L-shaped lounger on the port side with storage compartments beneath, including space for batteries and the hydraulic steering pump. The upholstery is single-stitched vinyl with multiple tones, providing both durability and a cushy seating experience. A Lexan pedestal table with four drink holders and integrated wine glass holders is standard. On the starboard side, the helm is situated on an optional raised platform, offering improved visibility over passengers. The helm seat is notably comfortable, swiveling with flip-down armrests. The helm layout is straightforward, featuring a windscreen, sunshade over the gauges, and essential instrumentation including a speedometer, depth gauge, trim gauge, and an optional SmartCraft display. The boat is equipped with a Sony stereo system complemented by upgraded Alpine speakers and a subwoofer. Additional conveniences include a 12-volt power supply, an MP3 audio input with a dedicated holder, a tilt steering wheel, illuminated toggle switches, keyless ignition, and optional Mercury DTS engine controls. Storage is well-considered, with a glove box, two drink holders, and a compartment ahead of the console designed for ice and cold drinks, which can optionally be converted into a sink. Under-console storage is available for safety gear or a cooler, and circuit breakers are positioned just above.

Boarding and Deck Layout

Cypress Cay has incorporated boarding gates on both sides of the boat for ease of access. A fender caddy with quick-release clips is included, as are quick-release fittings for the Bimini supports, facilitating efficient setup and storage. The forward deck features opposing lounge seats, allowing passengers to face each other comfortably for conversation. Drink holders are integrated into the center and aft ends of these seats, and the starboard seat back contains a built-in wastebasket. An additional boarding gate is located forward. The foredeck offers a spacious platform ideal for jumping into the water. Storage beneath the sole is accessible with the optional T3 package, featuring a gas-assisted strut for the lid, a gasket seal to reduce vibration, and dimensions of 13 1/4 inches by 3 feet 7 1/4 inches for the opening, with a compartment length of six feet fore and aft.

Power and Performance

The test boat is powered by a Mercury four-stroke 225 horsepower engine. Buyers have the option to upgrade to a Mercury 250 or select a 225 horsepower Honda engine, providing flexibility in powertrain choices tailored to performance preferences.

Conclusion

The Cypress Cay Cayman 250 successfully combines the requirements of a water sports boat with luxury and thoughtful design. Its well-appointed cockpit, practical boarding features, and flexible power options make it a versatile choice for those seeking both performance and comfort on the water.
