PINTAIL - Hooper Island Pintail, built at Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md. by the Apprentice for a Day Program, headed by and supervised by the CBMM shipwright. Features a reverse-rake round stern, referred to locally as a torpedo stern, dovetail, or ducktail. These were the first types of power workboats developed in the Chesapeake Bay region, having their heyday in the 1920s through the 1940's, when crab-potting became legal. Total weight is roughly 2800 lbs. Pintail has a 14 hp Yanmar diesel engine, 10 gallon diesel fuel tank, the draft is 2 feet and it's maximum speed 7-8 knots. She has a white oak keel and framing with Atlantic white cedar planking. The stern has traditional barrel staving, bead and cove strip planked top sides, glued with G-flex, fastened with silicone bronze screws and a cross planked herringbone bottom. This lovely boat is a true gem of the Chesapeake Bay, reminiscent of a by-gone era.
