"Wahoo" is a custom built sportfisherman that was built by Matlack Yacht Builders, Inc., which was reportedly formed to Out-Bertram the Bertrams built at that time. They hired Raymond Hunt, the famous naval architect from Boston. Raymond designed all the early Bertrams up through the Betram 38, as well as other name brand boats for various manufactures. Reportedly, there were 3 boats built, however the boats were so well built that construction cost exceeded the market selling price at that time, they ceased production. Three hulls were built, and Wahoo is believed to be either hull #2 or #3.
Bob Byrd (a legendary Texas marlin fisherman in the 70's until his death around 2000) and Norman Frede (a Houston area Chevrolet Dealer) purchased her and named her "Blue Streak" and fished out of Chub Cay (Bahamas) for a while. Bob brought her to Texas and where she is known for raising billfish, as it was one of the top billfish boats in Texas of her era.
She rides on a soft riding Deep V hull and was re-powered in 1994, with twin 300hp Cummins 6BTA 5.9L diesel engines. She sleeps (4) in her spacious cabin.
