Crestliner 21: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The Crestliner 2150 Sportfish is a versatile boat designed to excel in both fishing and skiing activities. Its dual-purpose functionality is supported by thoughtful design and engineering, making it a practical choice for boating enthusiasts who want a single vessel capable of handling multiple recreational uses. The boat features a 17-degree true V-hull with a uniwell design, contributing to a smooth and dry ride. Additionally, Crestliner backs this model with a lifetime plus three protection plan, ensuring long-term reliability and peace of mind.

Exterior Design and Fishing Features

The 2150 Sportfish boasts wide gunnels equipped with an XGS2 gunnel system and extruded chines with spray deflectors, enhancing both functionality and comfort. The bow area remains spacious even with a trolling motor installed, allowing room for a fishing chair and other gear. Notable features include a bell light with a test function for night lure changes, a trolling motor socket, and a motor tilt switch conveniently located under the bow peak. Storage is ample, with a three-drawer lure locker behind a door near the bow, a 21-gallon aerated live well on the port side, and additional storage compartments on the starboard side. The stern deck is designed for fishing with generous casting space, a dry box on the port side, a wide live well across the beam, and lockable storage for fishing poles. Batteries are housed in a starboard box, and navigation lights along with a folding bimini are cleverly stowed under the stern storage. The patented space saver transom reduces noise and backwash, enhancing the fishing experience.

Interior and Helm Station

The bow seating converts for ski mode with lounger backs facing forward, complemented by a high wraparound windshield that effectively blocks wind while underway. The companion side includes a grab handle, cup holder, small tray, and a grab box integrated into the pod, with additional storage space beneath secured by a net. The helm seat is designed for comfort, featuring an adjustable headrest, dual flip-up armrests, and plush cushioning. The helm station itself is spacious and functional, equipped in this test model with Mercury Smart Craft instrumentation and a Fish 4380 Navman unit positioned to the right of the wheel. There is dedicated space for additional electronics, and a Clarion Marine stereo with CD player is installed below the dash. Controls for the live well are conveniently located on the wall to the right of the helm seat, just below the throttle. The start and stop buttons for the Mercury Verado engine are integrated into the control package, complemented by slash pocket storage, fold-out cup holders, lockable fishing pole storage, and ample toe kick room, all contributing to a user-friendly cockpit environment.

Power and Performance

Measuring 21 feet 11 inches in length with a beam of 103 inches, the 2150 Sportfish offers a stable and safe platform, featuring a maximum depth of 47 inches and a cockpit depth of 30.5 inches. During testing on an inland lake, the boat demonstrated responsive handling and completed turns smoothly without significant loss of speed or cavitation. The top speed reached nearly 53 miles per hour, with a fuel consumption rate of approximately 28 gallons per hour at full throttle. At a cruising speed of 14.3 miles per hour (3,000 RPM), fuel burn was measured at 5.5 gallons per hour, indicating efficient performance for both fishing and skiing activities.

Conclusion

The Crestliner 2150 Sportfish successfully combines the features and performance required for both fishing and skiing, making it a versatile option for weekend recreational boating. Its thoughtful design elements, comfortable helm station, ample storage, and reliable powertrain contribute to a well-rounded boating experience. Whether your plans include casting lines or towing skiers, the 2150 Sportfish offers the necessary capabilities and durability to meet diverse on-water demands.
