A timeless Concordia built in 1956 and on just her third long term and loving owner, RAKA has been both extensively cruised and day sailed, once again proving the quality and versatility of these exquisite vessels. Under current ownership she has been completely rebuilt with new plank keel, new deadwood, new stern post, all new laminated frames through the mid-body, new keel bolts, mostly new floor timbers, new cockpit, new teak decks.

Please read the full specs for details.  All of this work has been carefully documented  before, during and after the work by well known surveyor Paul Haley who is particularly respected for his wood boat surveys.

The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1956 Concordia Fractional Rig Yawl is a classic sailing vessel known for its timeless design and solid craftsmanship. Here are some of the pros and cons of this iconic boat:

Pros

Elegant Design: The Concordia Yawl features a graceful, traditional hull shape and beautifully crafted wooden finishes, making it a standout classic on the water.

Fractional Rig: The fractional rig setup offers easier sail handling and better balance, especially in varying wind conditions, providing a more responsive sailing experience.

Yawl Configuration: The addition of a mizzen sail behind the mainmast allows for improved maneuverability and sail plan versatility, which can be advantageous during long passages or heavy weather.

Seaworthiness: Built with solid construction and attention to detail, this yawl is known for its stability and ability to handle offshore conditions with confidence.

Timeless Appeal: Owning a Concordia is not just about sailing; it’s about possessing a piece of sailing history that retains value and charm over the years.

Cons

Maintenance Intensive: As a classic wooden boat, the Concordia requires regular upkeep, including varnishing, painting, and structural inspections, which can be time-consuming and costly.

Limited Interior Space: Compared to modern yachts of similar length, the interior accommodations are relatively modest, with less room for crew and gear.

Performance: While seaworthy, the design prioritizes comfort and classic aesthetics over outright speed, so it may not satisfy those seeking high-performance racing capabilities.

Complex Rigging: The fractional yawl rig, while versatile, can be more complex to manage than simpler sloop rigs, especially for less experienced sailors.

Availability of Parts: Given its age and unique design, sourcing replacement parts or specialized maintenance expertise can sometimes be a challenge.

Made For
