FULLY ACCESSIBLE EQUIPPED FOR SPORT FISHING CHARTERS & PASSENGER TOURS
The 38 foot "Spirit of Pilar" is a replica of Ernest Hemingway's famous 1934 Wheeler sport fishing boat and is the most fully accessible yacht in America for those with mobility challenges including wheelchair use. The true magic of the "Spirit of Pilar" is all the accessibility features are cleverly and discreetly incorporated into the vessel.
Starting with a hull design by Walter McGinnis and built by famed boat builders Brownell Yachts, Walter Schulz of Shannon Boat Company undertook a two-year conversion project with no expense spared to create "Spirit". An incredible effort was made to maintain the overall appearance of the original Hemingway "Pilar" while bringing the vessel up to brand new boat standards. The hull was totally rebuilt from the keel up and finished off with cold molded epoxy layered cedar covered with epoxy saturated cloth to eliminate maintenance and make the hull impervious boring worms in warm climates. The entire deck house structure is brand-new and sprayed with Awlgrip coating in order to have a boat that is maintenance free for many years of use. All diesel engines, tanks, electric, pumps, plumbing, electronics, reverse cycle air/heat, refrigeration, microwave, etc. are new.
Proof of "Spirit's" accessibility, durability and low maintenance is the five-year period that the vessel was used extensively in southern Florida taking out disabled veterans and other mobility challenged young and older people fishing and cruising.
Two new Yamar diesels were installed, new fuel tank, new steering including the Hemingway flying bridge station, all new electrical and plumbing systems, a custom-designed electric lift mechanism for accessibility to the specially designed galley and toilet/shower room below. There are two settee/berths in the wheelhouse and two berths in the private forward cabin. There are numerous other specialty features on "Spirit of Pilar" that make it one of the most unique vessels on the water.
For prospective buyers interested in using "Spirit" for charter, she is designed to carry 12 passengers for tours or sport fishing. Financing is available.
