"Dashing" is a 1990 fiberglass creation modeled after an elegant time when wood pleasure boats were used on the Thames by Gentlemen and Ladys to enjoy an afternoon picnic cruise. "A Proper Launch". This is your opportunity to own this very classy "Picinic Cruiser". She's very simple and easy to operate and you could go for a quick ride on a moment's notice. Enjoy a cocktail cruise, picnic, booze cruise, or venture out to a favorite swimming hole then back to her home port. She is definitely an "eye catcher". The trailer is Included! Call, Text, or email for more information.
"Dashing" was built in 1989/90 by the Classic English Launch Company, a division of MacLough Ltd was a marine consultancy business, and betwixt advising such august entities as oil companies and the World Bank on various marine transportation projects, was deeply involved in a project known as the International Grand Prix of Yachting.....The launching of "Dashing" is one of nine reproductions of "Sapphire"; a wooden launch built by Timms Boatyard in 1906, though records indicate that the construction started some 9 years earlier! The original "Sapphire" is still afloat, and is still regularly used on the river Thames.....
In late '86, Mr. Peter Rhodes Dimmer employed Alan Hill, a naval architect of some experience and reputation in England, to take the lines from "Sapphire" with the vague idea of building a replica.
Dashing was really built in two parts. The hull is of course, made of fiberglass, and the nasty and unpleasant job of actually laying up the hull was subcontracted to a concern called Mitchell Moldings, from Essex, a particularly draughty and windswept patch of the east coast of England.....The layout of "Dashing" is slightly different to the earlier models, where the cockpit was extended by some 12" forward and radiused, and by some 4" aft. The hull layup is pigmented isophthalic polyester gel/resin, with a variety of hand laid CSM and woven rove cloth and is stiffened by numerous foam / balsa panels. Hull thickness at the garboard is approx 3/4" reducing to about 3/8" on the topsides. The gelcoat on the boat is a standard "British Racing Green" and was supplied by Scott Bader. Dashing was imported into the USA in September 1990 and was exhibited in the Annapolis Boat Show of that year, and the Washington Boat Show of the following Spring.
For more information on the constructions and comments from (I believe) the original owner of the boat (who's information I have not yet been able to discover) in a pdf file I will be glad to forward with a link to a dropbox folder. Please call text, or email me your contact information and I will be glad to share that link.
