2003 Chris White Atlantic 42 - "Watermark"
Location: Deltaville, VA | Builder: Lombardi Yachts | Price: $430,000
Overview
Watermark is a rare, meticulously maintained example of the legendary Atlantic 42 performance catamaran. Built by the respected Lombardi Yachts, she embodies the Chris White philosophy of speed, safety, and ease of handling.
Unlike many vessels of this vintage, Watermark has undergone a comprehensive refit and continuous upgrade cycle from 2019 through 2025. With new Yanmar engines (2022), updated saildrives, and a complete electronics/power overhaul, she is a "turn-key" offshore machine. Since 2022, she has been dry-sailed, preserving the hull and machinery in top-tier condition.
March 2026 Update: The owner has recently bought another boat that better suits their needs. He is willing to entertain reasonable offers.

Broker's Comments
"Watermark is a stand-out Atlantic 42. The combination of Lombardi craftsmanship and the owner's 'no-expense-spared' approach to upgrades makes this one of the most capable performance cruisers on the market today. The 2022 Yanmar repower and 2025 electrical upgrades remove the most common 'old boat' headaches, leaving the next owner to simply enjoy the 15-knot speeds Chris White designs are famous for."

The Biggest Pros and Cons
The 2003 Chris White Atlantic 42 is a well-regarded cruising catamaran known for its performance and comfort. Here are some of the key pros and cons of this model:
Pros
Exceptional Performance: Designed by Chris White, the Atlantic 42 offers impressive sailing performance with excellent speed and handling, making it suitable for both coastal cruising and offshore passages.
Spacious Layout: The catamaran’s wide beam provides ample living space, including comfortable cabins, a roomy salon, and generous cockpit areas, enhancing onboard comfort.
Stability and Safety: The twin-hull design offers superior stability, reducing heeling and providing a safer ride in various sea conditions.
Quality Construction: Built with high-quality materials and craftsmanship, the Atlantic 42 is known for durability and reliability.
Good Storage: Plenty of storage space for gear and provisions, which is beneficial for extended voyages.
Shallow Draft: The shallow draft allows access to shallower anchorages and cruising grounds not accessible to deeper keel boats.
Cons
Cost: As a high-performance cruising catamaran, the Atlantic 42 can be more expensive to purchase and maintain compared to monohull sailboats of similar size.
Maneuverability in Tight Spaces: While excellent under sail, catamarans like the Atlantic 42 can be more challenging to maneuver in tight marinas or docking situations without bow thrusters.
Limited Availability: Being a specialized design and older model, finding a well-maintained 2003 Atlantic 42 may be more difficult than more common production boats.
Engine Maintenance: With twin engines, maintenance and fuel costs can be higher compared to single-engine sailboats.
Weight Considerations: The robust build and additional systems can contribute to a heavier vessel, which might affect performance in light wind conditions.
