The Chris-Craft 38 Commander Sport Sedan began production in 1985 and is an evolution of the Uniflite 38 Convertible. This 1987 model incorporates a re-designed deckhouse and flybridge. This boat retains the well-known sea keeping properties of the original hull while offering a sleek and attractive profile that remains stylish today. Sheââ¬â¢s clean and well-kept with numerous upgrades.
The owner worked for Sea Ray boats at their Sykes plant and in 2000, the factory installed a pair of Caterpillar 3126 turbo diesels configured for longevity and producing some 385 hp. There are approximately 1,200 hours on the engines since the re-power.
In 2012 a major re-fit was performed including replacement of gaskets, hoses, seals, impellers, oil coolers, oil and fuel filters. The valves were adjusted and the timing reset. The boat cruises 23 kts at 2,300 rpm and will reach a maximum speed of about 28 kts at 2,750.
The hull was stripped and a West system epoxy coat applied in 2004 preventing osmotic blisters. The bottom paint was last renewed in April of 2015 at which time the hull topsides were waxed and buffed.
Auxiliary power is provided by a Koehler 6.5 KW generator set. Electronic and navigation capability was enhanced in 2009 by installation of a Raymarine C Series combined Radar/GPS/AutoPilot system.
Other features include CruiseAir SMX reverse cycle Air Conditioning, vacuum flush MSD, and a custom center-hinged aft cockpit Bimini.
