Chris-Craft 20: BoatTEST Review

Reviewed by Jeff Hammond

Overview

The CrissCraft Silver Bullet Limited Edition is a distinctive 20-foot sport runabout that blends classic design with modern boat-building technology. Representing a fresh chapter for CrissCraft under new ownership, this vessel honors the brand's heritage while incorporating contemporary advancements. It stands out as a luxurious and elegant craft, designed to appeal to enthusiasts seeking both style and performance.

Exterior Design and Features

From bow to stern, the Silver Bullet exudes sophistication, featuring teak decks and teak-accented cap rails that enhance its upscale appearance. The boat’s hull design includes dual lifting strakes, a reverse chine, and a wide flared bow, all contributing to improved speed and comfort on the water. Practical elements such as a retractable ski tow pylon and a swiveling port side seat for the observer demonstrate thoughtful attention to functionality. The cockpit is self-draining, ensuring safety by quickly expelling any water shipped over the freeboard.

Interior and Cockpit Details

The interior reflects a meticulous craftsmanship reminiscent of Coachworks from a century ago, an unusual level of detail for a 20-foot sport boat. The dash and instrument panel evoke a retro aesthetic akin to a 1950s Aston Martin, featuring a clean layout with all analog gauges centered on a textured panel. Clever storage solutions abound, including a carpeted hatch that serves as ski storage and a carry-on cooler conveniently located beneath a deck hatch between the seats. The upholstery is crafted from ultra-leather, providing comfort comparable to that found in high-end sports cars. An armrest behind the throttle enhances control precision.

Engine and Performance

Powering the Silver Bullet is a 320-horsepower, 5.7-liter Volvo Penta GXI V8 engine. This propulsion system enables the boat to reach a top speed of 57.7 miles per hour. The optimal cruising speed is approximately 24.4 miles per hour, offering a range of 113 miles on a 34-gallon (129-liter) fuel tank. Additional thoughtful touches include a Hobbs hour meter mounted near the engine compartment, facilitating accurate maintenance tracking. The engine compartment itself is finished to a high standard, matching the vessel’s exterior quality.

Conclusion

The CrissCraft Silver Bullet Limited Edition is a remarkable fusion of timeless design and modern engineering. It offers an elegant, comfortable, and high-performance boating experience that makes a strong statement on the water. As a limited edition model, it presents a unique opportunity for discerning buyers to own a piece of boating heritage reimagined for today’s standards.
