The Independence 45's history started with the classic Geoffrey White / Hans Christian design that partnered with the highly respected New Jersey builder Cherubini. The partnership produced a limited production of these rugged and striking raised pilot house coastal cruising yachts. These semi custom yachts were hand crafted with traditional East Coast styling, beautiful teak & mahogany appointed interiors, spacious layouts, abundant storage - TRULY targeting the live aboard / extended cruiser market. The full beam saloon feels and functions like a much larger yacht and Owner's and VIP staterooms are quite nicely appointed. The upper deck is roomy enough for a larger tender and Davit. The Radar mast easily folds for 13.5' Bridge clearance.
She's built on a semi displacement 14.5' beam with hard chines aft to reduce roll - and a long prop-protecting full keel. The visibility from the raised pilot house is exceptional. Safety and comfort working around the boat is wonderful with raised hull areas forward and heavy aluminum rail work around all exterior areas. Cruising speed is approx. 9 knots with exceptional MPG and sea keeping abilities.
"Kindred Spirit" was in brackish water in the Chesapeake Bay until 2007 which started all freshwater usage & annual heated inside storage in the Great Lakes.

Speed Comparison: While it handles well, some sailors might find that modern designs have faster PHRF ratings, particularly for racing.
Weight: The solid build can also make the boat heavier, which might affect performance compared to lighter modern designs, especially in light wind conditions.
Limited High-Tech Features: Depending on the specific outfitting, some may find the technology and amenities are not as advanced as newer models, requiring upgrades for modern conveniences.
Draft Considerations: The deeper draft of this boat (often around 5.5 feet) may limit access to shallower waters or certain anchorages.
