Overview

The Chaparral 250 OSX is a versatile 24-foot 6-inch boat with an 8-foot 6-inch beam, designed to offer a blend of performance, comfort, and thoughtful features. Powered by a single 250 horsepower Yamaha four-stroke outboard, it delivers solid handling and ample power for family outings and water sports. The boat's design emphasizes ease of use, storage capacity, and safety, making it a practical choice for boaters seeking both functionality and style.

Exterior Design and Deck Layout

Starting at the stern, the 250 OSX features swim platforms on each side measuring 34 inches by 22 inches, equipped with pull-up cleats and stainless steel chain plates for durability. The ladder hatch operates on a tension hinge, allowing for easy deployment of the four-step ladder without needing to hold it in place. The boat offers convenient access around the motor and splash well, with a fresh water flush access plate for bilge components. Fuel fills are located on both port and starboard sides, enabling flexible refueling options at gas stations. The cockpit is spacious, measuring 88 inches from the step base to the helm console and 42 inches wide, with optional SeaDek matting and large drainage outlets. Seating arrangements include adjustable seat backs that slide smoothly between forward and aft-facing positions, with large storage compartments beneath. Additional bench seats and deep storage lockers are integrated into the design, including an 80-inch long locker and a secondary 30-inch locker with battery access. The bow area provides comfortable seating with padded bolsters and a removable center cushion for anchor access. The anchor locker is centrally located with tension-hinged access hatches for ease of use.

Power and Performance

Powered by a single 250 horsepower Yamaha four-stroke outboard paired with a 15 1/4 by 17-inch saltwater series propeller, the 250 OSX achieves a top speed of 47.32 miles per hour at 5700 RPM. Its best cruise speed is 27.1 miles per hour at 3500 RPM, consuming 8.7 gallons per hour, which translates to 3.1 miles per gallon and a range of approximately 168 statute miles with a 10% fuel reserve from the 60-gallon tank. Acceleration tests showed the boat reaching 20 miles per hour in 5.6 seconds, 30 miles per hour in 7.2 seconds, and maintaining minimum plane speed at 24.2 miles per hour. The extended V-plane hull design, which extends to the trailing edge of the swim platform, acts like trim tabs to keep the boat level, improve planing time, and enhance handling during turns by minimizing stern squat and maintaining grip. This results in a comfortable and confident ride, especially during acceleration and cornering.
