Introducing SV Kleiner Hund. A beautifully maintained 1998 Catalina 36 Mk II with a tall rig and wing keel. Low-hour Universal M35 engine (783 hours), new Genoa and main sails (2023), recent bottom paint (2025), and numerous upgrades make this a turn-key cruiser.
The 1998 Catalina 36 Mk II is a highly respected, midsized production sloop designed by Gerry Douglas. Known for a forgiving hull shape, an expansive cockpit, and a highly ergonomic interior, it is ideal for family cruising and short-handed sailing.
Design & Construction
- Hull & Deck: Hand-laid solid fiberglass with vinylester resin on the outer plies to resist blistering. The deck design features wide side decks and a walk-through transom.
- Rigging: Available in standard and "tall rig" configurations, the masthead sloop setup provides excellent sail area.
- Cockpit: Enlarged over the original Mk I design, the cockpit features a walk-through transom to the swim platform, comfortable contoured seating, and an integrated cockpit table.
Interior & Accommodations
- Saloon: Features a large U-shaped dining area that converts into a double berth. It is complemented by clever storage and a dedicated settee opposite.
- Galley: Positioned to port, the large U-shaped galley is equipped with a gimbaled LPG stove/oven, double sinks, a refrigeration unit, and ample dry storage.
- Cabins: Offers a private V-berth cabin forward with access to the head. The aft cabin includes a spacious athwartship double berth, hanging lockers, and drawers.
- Navigation Station: Includes a dedicated desk and swivel stool, with easy access to the main AC/DC breaker panels and VHF radio
The Catalina Mk Il is spacious and offers a large cockpit as well as plenty of
room below decks. The interior layout includes a fold up table, which allows a lot
of space to move about and on the starboard side there are 2 chairs with cocktail
table between. The head and shower have easy access from both the forward cabin and the salon. The Catalina 36 Mk II is known for it's interior roominess and functional design.
She is easy to single hand or sail with family or crew. Sailing and cruising enjoyment is waiting.
SV Kleiner Hund is a great find for anyone looking for a day/weekend sailor or long range cruising.
