The Biggest Pros and Cons
The 2011 Catalina 355 is a popular mid-sized cruising sailboat known for its blend of performance, comfort, and value. Here are some of the key pros and cons of this model:
Pros
Spacious Interior: The Catalina 355 offers a roomy and well-designed interior with ample headroom, comfortable berths, and a functional galley, making it ideal for extended cruising.
Good Sailing Performance: With a balanced sail plan and moderate displacement, the Catalina 355 provides responsive handling and respectable speed in a variety of wind conditions.
Solid Construction: Built with quality materials and attention to detail, the Catalina 355 is known for its durability and reliability.
Easy Handling: Features like a well-placed cockpit, efficient sail controls, and optional roller furling make this boat manageable for short-handed crews or weekend sailors.
Attractive Styling: The boat combines classic Catalina aesthetics with modern touches, resulting in a pleasing and timeless look both inside and out.
Cons
Limited Tankage: Fuel and water tank capacities are somewhat modest, which may require more frequent stops on longer voyages.
Weight: While offering stability, the boat’s moderate displacement can make it less lively in very light winds compared to lighter racers.
Limited Upwind Performance: Though capable, the Catalina 355 does not excel as a racing boat and may lag behind more performance-oriented designs when sailing upwind.
Older Design Features: Some interior layouts and equipment options reflect the design trends of the early 2010s and may feel slightly dated compared to newer models.
Storage Space: While generally adequate, storage can be tight for sailors planning extended offshore passages with lots of gear.
