The Carver 36 Aft Cabin is a beamy double-cabin family cruiser with a surprisingly spacious interior and a somewhat boxy profile. This is a much more open boat than Carver's earlier 36 Aft Cabin model (1982-89) thanks primarily to a wider beam and greater freeboard. Notably, she's built on a fairly deep-deadrise modified-V hull which accounts for her soft and comfortable ride in choppy seas. Like all of Carver's recent motor yacht designs, the hullsides are cored with balsa and the bottom is solid fiberglass. Inside, Carver engineers managed to pack double berths into both staterooms as well as provide two head compartments, a big U-shaped dinette, and reasonably spacious main salon dimensions-not bad for just a 36-foot hull. The aft deck is quite spacious compared with those of similar models in this size range, and the centerline helm console on the flybridge allows plenty of guest seating. The twin MerCruiser 7.4-liter gas engines will cruise the Carver 36 in the neighborhood of 15-16 knots and deliver a top speed of about 24 knots.
