The Capri 30 is designed for the racing skipper who wants the largest, fastest, competitive thirty-foot production racing boat available. MORC International Regatta proved the Capri 30's performance potential when she took second place in the tough, Division I Class. The design parameter was to create a 30 footer with maxium speed potential through a wide range of conditions with an interior which is large and comfortable enough to accommodate the racing oriented family, which may also occasionally use the boat for limited cruising. The deck is efficient and sleek, all controls within reach of the cockpit area. The hull has a fine entry for good windward performance. Maxium beam of 11'2" is developed at the deck so that crew weight can be taken advantage of carried out on the rail. The cored sandwich construction is stiff and light weight. The keel ia a lead casting sheathed to a fiberglass-molded jacket for a good quality finish. Complete with all hardware, winches and controls lead aft to the cockpit, the deck design borrows and refines many of the concepts first used successfully in the Capri 25. Crew Ergonomics played a large part in deck layout with wide side decks, inboard toerails, inboard winch islands, well placed and effective non-skid where necessary. The rig is a taperd section with double spreaders. The mast is stepped on the keel. The lower shrouds are in line with the upper and intermediate shrouds allowing the mast to bend when desired. For main sail shape control there are adjustable check stays to the legal MORC limit on the cabin top on tracks with ball bearing cars. Controls lead aft to the cockpit. A Headfoil II System is tandard equipment, as are three headsail halyards any of which may be used for the spinnaker. The interior is bright and open. By using tilt rods and a transverse truss structural system the main bulkhead was able to be moved forward of the mast. This created an enclosed head and enlarged the main cabin. On the port side is the galley fitted with a sink, water system and a stove space; a removeable ice box is located on stateboard side under the chart table.
