Production of the Bluenose commenced in 1946, originally of wood, by the Barkhouse Boatyard Ltd in Nova Scotia. The designer W.J. Roue granted McVay the rights to build the boat starting in 1980 out of fiberglass and did so under the manufacture's name of Sailcraft. McVay continued until 1972. At this time it went from a pure day sailor to the introduction of a small cuddy cabin. Most were deep fin keels, but some were keel centerboards, as is this fine vessel with a kick up rudder. Herring cover Marine continued production in 2010 until 2018. Now the boat is exclusively produced by Snyder's Shipyard in Nova Scotia. The Bluenose has a sleek hull with a pleasant sheer. She's very traditional looking with teak coamings and toe rails. She has a hinged deck step mast and a fractional sloop sailplan. Her shoal draft make her an easy boat to launch and retrieve and set up. The centerboard winch is located in the cockpit for easy access.
