AMAZING HULL THAT CUTS THE WATER .....great for Fishing, Diving, Cruising ..1'8" draft ..
While this boat stands out as unique, it offers an interesting alternative for those who want something a little different than a small runabout or inflatable for getting around. Fisherman will especially appreciate the Calypso's features, especially if they take it somewhere like Florida where they need to plow through the occasional surf.
:
Our Calypso Classics are descendants of the Calypso Pirogue, produced in Chaguaramas, Trinidad. The high bow and shallow draft island skiff design has been used in the islands for well over 100 years. First made of wood and I'm told some still do right on the beaches. The Scott family put the proven design to fiberglass years ago.
There's a reason for every part of the design. The high freeboard bow is a sharp 60 degrees. This aids in leaving the beach into high surf. The deep sheer quickly tapers out giving the boat a shallow draft of only 8" (with motor up) allowing the boat to be beached and remain flat. another benefit aids shallow water navigation.
The lapstrake hull isn't just for looks. It adds stiffness preventing flex all while remaining light weight (1,200 lbs. dry). The reversed chine starts at the bow and progressively increases across the length of the hull. This provides a dry ride and aids in roll reduction for the narrow beam of 7' 2". LOA is 22' 10".
At first the hulls were produced in Trinidad and shipped to the states. Later molds were produced and hull layup took place in Florida. The boat was widened slightly and the aft section of the hull was then tumblehomes (a classic reverse flair). The original Pirogue is powered with a small tiller outboard. Parks' clients were requesting a wider craft with more horse power and the tumblehomes stern added greater stability.
Construction is 100% wood free all composite down to the Coosa transom. No looking forward to soft decks or transom areas!
Testing proves that a 60 hp four stroke outboard will push the boat to 35 mph sipping only 3 gallons of gas per/hour at cruise speed. The fuel capacity is 35 gallons, giving the boat great range.
The boat has a very unusual ride. There's no period during throttle up where the boat is trying to climb onto plane. It appears to be on plane at the very start.
The larger 90 hp 4 stroke Suzuki engine option that will push her to 40 mph.
We can also build to order. . The base boat will come with a center console with seat, Heavy-duty rub-rail, Full inner liner w/molded storage/seating forward, 35 gallon fuel tank, Teleflex Steering w/Stainless Steel Wheel. Navigation Lights, Automatic Bilge Pump, 6 Gang Switch Panel, Self-Baling Cockpit, Bow and Transom Eyes. From there it's a blank canvas.
Available base hull color is Fighting Lady Yellow, Sea-foam Green, Sky Blue, and White. Custom colors are available to match larger craft, team colors, ETC.
We Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Mercury. We recommend checking your local area for servicing dealers when it comes to a motor choice.
An Aluminum Trailer by Loadmaster with 5.5" x 3.5" I-beam, torsion axle, and a tongue jack adds $2,400. Trailer specs include 14" Radial Tires, 5 lug Galvanized Rims, Guides, LED Lights, and VORTEX Hubs.
Approximate Weights are as follows:
Boat: 1,200 lbs.
Trailer: 600 lbs.
Motor: 350 lbs.
Total: Approx. 2,180 lbs., add 210 lbs. for a full tank of fuel
In theory, if you watch your gear and optional equipment weight the whole package will come in under 3,000 lbs.
