Opening Description
Perfect Salinity is a serious, proven long-range cruiser from one of the most respected American blue water builders. This is a purpose-built design for extended offshore passage making and comfortable liveaboard life. Designed by Michael McCreary and built by Caliber Yachts, she's well known in the cruising community for rugged construction, conservative engineering, and the kind of system specifications that matter when far from the nearest travel lift.
Perfect Salinity is a two-owner boat and has been in the care of her current owner for the past year during which she's been prepped for an extended multi-year cruise. She's been upgraded with new North 3Di Laminate cruising sails, new running rigging, a new B&G electronics package, and new lower shrouds. What gives this Caliber her 'LRC' designation is her exceptional tankage which is among the most generous in her class. This is an excellent example of a Caliber 40 LRC that's ready to cruise locally while researching her next destination across the horizon. Choose a destination and go. She's ready for her next owner to continue the journey.
Upgrades and Highlights:
New B&G electronics package including two MFD's, autopilot, and radar
New North 3Di 370 laminate cruising sails
New wire lower shrouds
New running rigging
Webasto hydronic diesel cabin heat
New transom mounted radar tower
Expanded capacity battery bank
Twin head layout
Separate shower stall in forward head
Dual stateroom layout; double pullman berth forward stateroom, and large aft double quarter berth.
Interior Accommodations
Belowdecks, Perfect Salinity offers a two-cabin, two-head layout built for a cruising couple and crew rather than a crowd. It's spacious, livable, and optimized for extended time aboard.
Down the companionway to port and a step aft is an outboard-facing nav table and the hub of Perfect Salinity's communication and electrical monitoring systems. Of special note, her companionway steps are very 'four-legged crew member' friendly.
Forward of the navigation station is a large, functional L-shaped galley with 2 burner propane Force 10 stove with oven, top accessed refrigerator, and forward-facing double sink with hot and cold pressure water.
Directly to starboard of the companion way, Perfect Salinity's aft head is ideally located for changing out of wet foul weather gear at the end of watch keeping the rest of the interior dry. Immediately aft of the head is a private stateroom with a large double quarter berth, hanging lockers, storage drawers and cabinet. Opening ports and electric fans ensure excellent ventilation.
Forward of the galley and head, the main salon features a large bulkhead mounted dining table with a chart storage shelf that can be folded up and secured against the forward midship structural bulkhead making additional room underway. Both port and starboard settees feature storage and mechanical access beneath, with additional storage behind seatbacks, and easily accessible cabinets and shelving athwartship.
Ahead of the mast and bulkhead, Perfect Salinity's forward stateroom provides a large double pullman berth to port with drawers and storage below and shelving outboard. To starboard are cedar lined hanging lockers and vanity table.
Forward of the stateroom is a large head and sink to starboard and stand-alone shower to port. This is simply a well-considered, highly functional interior arrangement with excellent storage for extended passage making whether at anchor or underway.

Deck and Hull
Perfect Salinity's hull is hand-laid fiberglass, built to Caliber's standard of strength and conservative engineering. The deck is set up for real offshore use, with a full-length perforated aluminum toe rail, a robust sprit-mounted bow roller that accommodates two anchors, and a Lofrans Tigress horizontal windlass with a watertight control box. Bow, midship, and aft cleats and chocks make shorthanded docking easy. Gunwale-mounted pad eyes just below and outboard of the toe rail, at both bow and stern, provide solid attachment points for a drogue or sea anchor
Her deck and cockpit are arranged for easy handling by a shorthanded crew. The deep, T-shaped cockpit is protected by a stainless-steel-framed dodger and seats four to five comfortably. A 30" stainless steel wheel lets the helmsperson sit outboard with clear sightlines forward, and the transom has a swim step with a stainless-steel ladder.
The main sheet, main halyard, and staysail sheet lead aft to a powered self-tailing winch on the starboard cabin top. The boom vang, first reef line, and genoa halyard lead to a self-tailing winch on the port cabin top. Sail handling is straightforward, with genoa and staysail furling, deployable lazy jacks, a fully battened main, and a self-tacking staysail.
Wide side decks and stainless handrails make it comfortable to move forward when anchoring or working at the mast. The anchor locker is generous, and the ground tackle is easy to wash down and stow after time on the hook.
