Overview

The Brabus Shadow 500 represents the pinnacle of collaboration between Finnish boat builder Axopar and luxury car tuner Brabus, a partnership established in 2017. This model targets the sports weekender market by combining high-performance capabilities with premium features and striking design. The Shadow 500 is equipped with virtually every available option, delivering a sophisticated and adrenaline-fueled boating experience.

Exterior Design and Deck Layout

The aft deck of the Shadow 500 offers versatile configurations, accessible from both port and starboard sides. Owners can choose between an open layout, an aft cabin, or a wet bar setup. The wet bar includes a full-length hatch concealing a 12-volt cold box, sink, and storage, with space for a portable grill. Ample storage is integrated throughout the deck, including a large compartment beneath the forward deck and insulated storage with a manual bilge pump and freshwater shower. The boat features six 8-inch cleats, a 5-inch rub rail, and staple rails near the transom that are reversible to optimize cockpit space or engine tilt. Transitioning from the aft deck, the twin platforms provide modest walkways, with the port side housing a reboarding ladder. A water sports tow bar spans between the platforms over the engines. The hull is designed with twin Mercury 250 Pro XS V8 outboards mounted on an upgraded transom, controlled via a high-performance steering system with a tie bar. Continuous rails run the length of the boat, interrupted only by midship cleats.

Helm and Social Area

Accessed from the port side via a 10-inch step, the helm console is starboard-mounted and features significant Brabus enhancements. Dual 12-inch Garmin multifunction displays are mounted on a carbon fiber panel, fully integrated with radar, music, and engine systems. The upgraded ISM steering wheel includes controls for trim, bow thruster, and audio, all within a fixed hub design. Additional instrumentation includes a vessel view display, digital throttle and shift controls, ignitions, engine shutoff, VHF radio, and storage. Both helm and observer seats are mounted on a raised platform and upholstered with premium Silvertex featuring Brabus sport pattern stitching, enhanced padding, flip bolsters, and carbon fiber trim armrests. Behind these seats are four additional passenger seats with matching upholstery and features, creating a comfortable social zone. The area includes a pedestal table option and refrigerated compartments beneath forward seats. Decking utilizes S-Tech material with corner drains, and overhead protection is provided by a canvas top supported by a fiberglass frame with LED lighting and powder-coated supports. The overall bridge clearance is nine and a half feet.

Bow Area and Additional Features

The side decks, 14 inches wide with 22-inch bulwarks and 27-inch rails, lead forward to the bow seating area. The bow features an L-shaped seating arrangement to port with a fiberglass table on fixed pedestals, which can be converted into a large sun pad with a filler cushion. Storage compartments beneath the seats house carbon fiber poles and a sunshade. The bow area also conceals essential systems such as the holding tank, bow thruster, power steering fluid, water tank, and battery charger for shore power. Forward is a hatch covering the ground tackle, electric windlass, and rode storage, with a polished plow-style anchor secured on a recessed roller. The head compartment, accessed from the pilot house front, offers a fully enclosed space with 4 feet 2 inches of headroom, leather upholstery, an electric flush toilet, a large mirror, and a cabinet with black Corian countertop and recessed sink. Additional storage and system controls are located to port.

Power and Performance

Powered by twin Mercury 250 Pro XS V8 outboards turning 13.6 by 21 inertia props, the Shadow 500 features an upgraded transom and high-performance steering. During testing with an estimated weight of 5,714 pounds (including 51% fuel and two people), the boat achieved a top speed of 62.7 miles per hour at 5,990 RPM. The most economical cruise speed was 31 miles per hour at 3,500 RPM, consuming 14.4 gallons per hour and yielding a range of 144 statute miles with a 10% fuel reserve from the 74-gallon capacity. The boat planes quickly, reaching planing speed in 3.1 seconds with minimal bow rise, and accelerates through 20 and 30 miles per hour in 3.9 and 5.7 seconds respectively. Its turning ability is exceptional, allowing tight maneuvers with stern sliding rather than water grabbing, maintaining control without prop ventilation even when trimmed. Offshore testing confirmed the boat's ability to handle rough conditions smoothly, aided by its twin stepped hull and 20-degree dead rise, providing a stable and comfortable ride at speed.

Conclusion

The Brabus Shadow 500 by Axopar is a high-end sports weekender that combines striking design, premium materials, and advanced performance features. It is tailored for discerning owners seeking a standout vessel with uncompromising quality and handling. Brabus upgrades elevate an already impressive platform, delivering a boat that excels in both aesthetics and function. For enthusiasts desiring top-tier features, responsive handling, and luxurious appointments, the Shadow 500 offers a compelling package.
