The Boston Whaler 360 Outrage represents a significant evolution in the Outrage line, emphasizing maximized space and enhanced functionality. This model integrates thoughtful design elements and technical advancements to cater to both fishing enthusiasts and those seeking versatile recreational boating. The boat measures 36 feet 5 inches in length overall, with a beam of 11 feet 3 inches and a draft of 32 inches, offering a well-proportioned platform for various activities.
Cockpit and Exterior Features
The cockpit area is spacious, measuring eight feet seven inches by four feet two inches, providing ample room for movement and fishing activities. It is outfitted with padded bolsters, rocket launchers, numerous rod holders, tow rails, and holders for cannonballs, complemented by both raw and fresh water washdown systems. A 55-gallon pressurized live well with a bait divider and two macerated fish boxes integrated into the deck enhance fishing convenience. The cockpit seating is versatile, featuring a bolster that can be raised to reveal a pull-out seat and a pedestal base for a removable table stored beneath a hatch, termed 'point of view storage' by Boston Whaler. An extendable awning offers sun protection over the aft-facing seating area, which includes non-skid steps leading to the tower hatch, providing safer and easier access compared to traditional ladders. The seat backs can be folded down to create a functional working surface. For those opting for a summer kitchen instead of fishing amenities, the aft seating area remains functional, with the live well capacity adjusted accordingly and features such as a grill, sink, refrigeration, and ice maker available. Additional cockpit conveniences include a standard dive door on the port side with a ladder stored at the transom and a reboarding ladder on the starboard side angled away from the running gear for safety. A centrally located mechanical room beneath the cockpit deck allows access to bilge pumps, water pumps, macerator pumps, and lithium-ion batteries for the e-fathom system.
Bow and Deck Layout
Forward of the cockpit, the design features black tower supports integrated into the console, signaling a new stylistic direction for the Outrage series. The bow area includes a sun pad with flip armrests and integrated beverage holders, which converts into a larger sunbathing area with a filler cushion. Storage compartments beneath the sun pad accommodate the removable table and its pedestals. A macerated fish box is located in the deck with an adjacent activation switch. The forward bolster flips up to provide easy access to the ground tackle, which includes a quick windlass, a through-stem anchor roller, and a remote control positioned conveniently to the side. Freshwater washdown and rope storage are also accessible here. The hatch covers on both sides are gas-assisted and secured with turn-and-lock latches. The bow features 10-inch pull-up cleats, additional rod holders, recessed speaker areas, and recessed rails integrated into the bulwarks, all contributing to a clean and functional layout.
Helm and Electronics
The helm station is equipped with advanced navigation and control systems. A 12-inch Simrad display is positioned to the left, complemented by a compass aligned with the steering wheel. The helm features a JPO joystick on the right and the latest generation Mercury DTS digital throttle and shift controls. LEMCO trim tabs are conveniently located nearby. Above the helm, an e-box, Seakeeper gyro panel, Simrad VHF radio, and a remote control spotlight are installed, along with an open array Simrad antenna and forward-looking infrared equipment. The helm windshield is a three-piece design with an electrically actuated vent at the top, and speakers are integrated beneath the panel. Electrical switches span the top of the dash, which includes dual glass dash panels from Simrad, supplemented by a physical volume knob for the stereo system. The glovebox on the left side offers connectivity and drainage. Climate control vents and dual-level footrests enhance comfort. Helm seats are mechanically adjustable fore and aft, featuring a flip-down elevated panel for improved visibility. The helm area can be enclosed, and outriggers are installed. Additional amenities include a refrigerated drawer to starboard and the main electrical panel located on the bulwarks.
Interior Cabin and Amenities
Access to the cabin is provided through a lockable, watertight door with articulating hinges that swing the door neatly to the side of the console. Inside, the cabin offers generous headroom of 6 feet 4 inches. The aft bulkhead features a Corian countertop with a recessed sink equipped with a pull-out sprayer, functioning as a wet head. A trash receptacle is conveniently positioned nearby, along with ample storage compartments. Vertical rod holders accommodate rods up to 6 feet 4 inches, secured with flip-down base supports, and reels are held forward for efficient storage. The cabin seating area converts into a berth, with additional storage beneath cushions. The e-fathom system panel, which controls lithium-ion batteries replacing a traditional generator, allows extended operation of electrical systems including the Seakeeper gyro. The main breaker panel is also located within the cabin.
Power and Performance
The 360 Outrage offers a range of engine options, including triple 300 horsepower, 400 horsepower, 450 horsepower racing engines, or twin 600 horsepower V12 Mercury Verados. The test boat was equipped with twin 600 horsepower V12 Verados turning 27.5-inch propellers. Performance testing recorded a top speed of 61.3 miles per hour at 6,400 rpm. The optimal cruising speed was 36.1 miles per hour at 4,000 rpm, achieving a fuel burn of 34.1 gallons per hour and a range of 395 statute miles while maintaining a 10% fuel reserve from the 415-gallon total capacity. Acceleration was notable, with an average time to plane of 4.1 seconds, and the boat maintained plane down to 15.3 miles per hour. It reached 20 mph in 5.4 seconds, 30 mph in 7.4 seconds, and 40 mph in 10.2 seconds. Handling characteristics reflected the solid and manageable feel typical of Boston Whaler vessels, with turns exhibiting moderate stern slide to soften edges. The elevated center of gravity due to the tower results in increased lean during turns, which remains controlled.
