Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The Boston Whaler 330 Vantage is a versatile day cruising and sandbar boat designed for family outings and recreational boating. Measuring 33 feet in length overall with a beam of 10 feet 4 inches and a draft of 25 inches with engines trimmed up, this model offers a blend of performance, comfort, and thoughtful amenities. Powered by twin Mercury 400 R engines with 22-pitch RevX props, the boat delivers impressive speed and handling characteristics suitable for a variety of boating conditions.

Exterior Design and Deck Layout

The bow area features extensive U-shaped seating with 130 inches of seating perimeter and 35-inch-high coamings for safety and comfort. Additional features include handrails, flip-down armrests, dual USB chargers, cup holders, and premium JL Audio speakers. An optional sunshade extends from the forward rod holders to the hardtop, providing ample protection from the sun. Storage is abundant beneath the seating, including an insulated compartment that doubles as a cooler with overboard drainage. A table can be installed at the bow for dining or socializing, and when lowered with a filler cushion, the area converts into a large sun pad. The anchor locker houses a beach boarding ladder, a fresh water rinse station to keep sand and mud off the boat, and an electric windlass with remote control.

Helm and Cockpit Features

A notable 2025 update is the full glass windshield with a large, 55-pound door equipped with a gas-assist strut for effortless operation. The helm station includes a high-low electrically actuated seat with armrests and bolsters, a molded footrest, and dual SIMRAD displays. Controls for the spotlight, JL Audio system, VHF radio, Mercury engine functions, trim tabs, and joystick are ergonomically arranged. The steering wheel is tilt-adjustable. The port side offers a double-wide, bolstered, electrically adjustable seat with footrest, additional JL Audio speakers, cup holders, and USB ports. The dinette area features generous storage beneath the seats, including dedicated compartments for a dive ladder and inflator. Seating can be converted into a sun pad, and a smaller cockpit table is available for convenience. The starboard side includes a 51-inch bench seat with insulated storage beneath, usable as a cooler.

Cabin and Private Accommodations

The cabin layout has been revised for 2025, with the head and cabin positions swapped to improve access and space. The cabin is approximately 19 inches wide at the forward end, with 43 inches of overhead clearance on the bench/berth area. A filler cushion converts the seating into a 75 by 30 inch bed. Both the cabin and head are air-conditioned, powered by large lithium battery banks that allow quick cycling of the AC without a generator. The cabin includes LED overhead lighting, two forward skylights (which can be opened for ventilation), and easy access panels for electrical components. The head measures 21 by 50 inches with 64.5 inches of headroom, featuring a pull-out faucet for a fresh water shower, ample storage cabinets, and LED lighting. Additional ventilation is provided by skylights and an air vent.

Hardtop and Additional Amenities

The hardtop includes an electric sunshade that covers nearly the entire cockpit, floodlights on both forward and aft sides, JL Audio speakers, and mounts for outriggers. Courtesy lighting and two skylights/vents enhance comfort and ventilation. Canvas storage is integrated overhead for life vests and other gear, with grab handles for safety while moving about. Headroom beneath the hardtop measures an impressive 7 feet 3 inches. The transom features a summer kitchen with a 57-inch countertop, sink, two cup holders, an electric Kenyon grill, drawers, a pullout refrigerator, and dedicated storage for a five-gallon bucket. An optional flip-down bench seat replaces the summer kitchen for additional seating while retaining the sink and refrigerator relocated under the dinette. A side entry door facilitates easy dock access, and a dive ladder bracket and boarding assist handle are installed at the transom.

Cockpit and Mechanical Spaces

The cockpit measures 40 by 99 inches with a depth of 29 inches, equipped with rod holders, padded bolsters, shore power receptacle, and multiple JL Audio speakers. Storage under the deck includes a 48-inch fish box on the starboard side and a large mechanical space at centerline housing the SeaKeeper gyro stabilizer, lithium batteries, electrical panels, battery charger, strainers, bilge pumps, and other essential systems. The transom features three rod holders, an 8-inch wide walkway, a swim platform with a concealed four-step telescoping swim ladder, fresh water shower, fresh water fill, waste pump-out receptacle, pop-up cleats, and handholds for boarding.

Power and Performance

This test boat was powered by twin Mercury 400 R engines, although a twin 300 option is also available. The vessel's estimated test weight was 15,026 pounds with 30% fuel and two passengers aboard. Performance testing showed a top speed of 54.2 miles per hour at 6,250 RPM, with the best cruise speed at 37.7 miles per hour at 4,500 RPM, achieving 1.2 miles per gallon and a range of approximately 258 miles with a 10% fuel reserve. Acceleration tests recorded 0 to 10 mph in 4.3 seconds, 0 to 20 mph in 7.3 seconds, and 0 to 30 mph in 11.3 seconds. The boat demonstrated quick planing, excellent grip with no sliding, and solid handling characteristics. The SeaKeeper stabilizer contributed to a stable ride, and the helm offered excellent visibility with the extended windshield design. The boat’s construction and ride quality reflect Boston Whaler’s reputation for seaworthy, solidly built vessels.

Conclusion

The Boston Whaler 330 Vantage combines thoughtful design, robust performance, and comfortable accommodations to create a capable and enjoyable day cruiser. Updates for 2025, including the full glass windshield, revised cabin layout, and enhanced cockpit amenities, reflect the brand’s responsiveness to customer feedback. Powered by twin Mercury 400 R engines and equipped with a SeaKeeper gyro stabilizer, the boat offers confident handling and stability. Its versatile layout, ample storage, and well-appointed features make it well suited for family outings, fishing, and extended day trips. Overall, the 330 Vantage exemplifies Boston Whaler’s commitment to quality and functionality in a midsize offshore-capable vessel.
