The Boston Whaler 280 Outrage is a completely redesigned 28-foot center console boat engineered for enhanced performance and handling. With a beam of 9 feet 4 inches and a shallow draft of 22 inches, this model emphasizes agility and safety, retaining Whaler’s hallmark unsinkable construction and high freeboard. The design improvements focus on hull configuration and operational ergonomics, aiming to deliver a refined boating experience both on and off the water.

Power and Performance

Powered in the test configuration by twin 300 horsepower Mercury Verado 6-cylinder engines equipped with 20-inch pitch Rev4 props, the 280 Outrage demonstrated impressive speed and efficiency. The boat reached a top speed of 49.6 knots at 6,300 RPM, consuming 60 gallons per hour, which translates to a range of approximately 138 nautical miles. Optimal fuel economy was achieved at 3,500 RPM, cruising at 25.5 knots with a reduced fuel burn of 17.4 gallons per hour and an extended range of 245 nautical miles while maintaining a 10% fuel reserve. The bow area includes a non-skid hatch covering a recessed anchor windlass managing both chain and rope rode, with adjacent space for rode management and a cleat for securing the line. The anchor is deployed through the stem, controlled by a remote located nearby.
