The Boston Whaler 270 Dauntless is a versatile center console boat designed to accommodate a wide range of activities including fishing, water sports, and family cruising. As the largest model in the Dauntless lineup, it offers a feature-rich platform that balances comfort, safety, and functionality, making it suitable for both inshore and coastal pursuits.

Fishing Features and Exterior Design

This particular 270 Dauntless is outfitted for coastal fishing with several thoughtful features. Optional underwater lights enhance fish attraction while adding aesthetic appeal. The standard leaning post includes dual helm seats, four rod holders, and a cooler beneath. An upgraded deluxe leaning post option adds a 30-gallon livewell, a sink with a pull-out sprayer, and a 35-quart cooler below. To starboard, an optional cockpit refrigerator is available. The overhead hardtop, also optional, is equipped with four rocket launchers, cockpit floodlights, a two-color dome light, and lifejacket storage. The stern features a spacious casting deck capable of accommodating an optional pedestal fishing seat, which flips up to reveal a bench seat with storage underneath. Beneath the floor, a compartment houses the ship's batteries. Wide 21-inch side decks lead forward to bow seating and foredeck areas that double as casting platforms, all treated with non-skid surfaces. The side seats serve as self-draining insulated fish boxes with storage beneath. Safety is emphasized through grab handles positioned throughout the boat, with cockpit depths measuring 25.5 inches forward and 35 inches aft.

Comfort and Interior Living Spaces

Comfort is well addressed on the 270 Dauntless. The aft bench seat provides a relaxing spot with convenient drink holders and close proximity to the leaning post, allowing passengers to remain secure during choppy coastal runs. Forward of the console, a double-wide lounge seat measuring 3.5 feet wide by 4 feet fore and aft offers a popular gathering area. Although stainless steel grab handles are installed low on the sides of the seats, armrests would enhance the feeling of security. The seat lifts to reveal a back-gelled hatch cover supported by gas-assist struts and fully gasketed, opening to a spacious storage compartment capable of holding dive tanks and 5-gallon buckets. Even without cushions, the bow seating is comfortable and converts easily to forward-facing chaise lounges. Optional accessories include a filler cushion to create a sun pad and a bow table for alfresco dining. The head compartment, accessed from the starboard side of the console, provides 5 feet 2.5 inches of overhead clearance and includes a standard portable pump-out head. Additional features include hanging hooks on the bulkhead and a stainless steel opening port light for natural light and ventilation.

Helm and Operational Features

The helm of the 270 Dauntless is designed for efficiency and clarity. It accommodates an array of 9- and 12-inch navigation displays neatly integrated into a wide, open panel. Ignitions are mounted in the panel to avoid interference and are positioned outside the knee strike zone. The stainless steel steering wheel features a urethane grip, and the compass is correctly placed within the operator's line of sight rather than centered on the dash. Three SmartCraft gauges are positioned just ahead of the Mercury digital throttle controls, which in this model manage twin 200 horsepower Mercury Verado engines. The switch panel is safeguarded by circuit breakers located in the head compartment, replacing traditional fuses. A well-positioned molded footrest and a fire extinguisher pocket below the helm add to operational convenience. The helm seat is double wide with individual flip-up bolsters, though the addition of armrests would improve comfort and security.

Additional Features and Safety

The 270 Dauntless includes a standard through-the-stem anchoring system at the bow, with an optional concealed anchor windlass housed under an unsupported hatch. A beach reboarding ladder is available as an alternative to the windlass, while a stern reboarding ladder comes standard. The boat's design incorporates dual 2-inch deck drains on either side of the aft cockpit to quickly expel any water that may enter the vessel.
