Overview

The Boston Whaler 160 Supersport is a compact, durable, and low-maintenance boat designed with a new hull that enhances ride comfort compared to its predecessor. With a contemporary styling featuring a sheer that slopes toward the transom, the boat appears larger and faster than its actual size. It accommodates up to six passengers, with seating for four midships, which is considered the most comfortable location in various conditions. Two engine options are available: a 75 horsepower and a 90 horsepower Mercury Outboard, allowing for different performance configurations.

Power and Performance

The 160 Supersport measures 17 feet 5 inches in length overall, with a beam of 6 feet 10 inches and a draft of 10 inches when the engine is raised. The test weight, including fuel, two passengers, and gear, was approximately 1,917 pounds. Equipped with a single Mercury 90 horsepower outboard and a 13.5 by 15 Spitfire aluminum propeller, the boat achieved a top speed of 37.3 miles per hour at 5,500 RPM under moderate wind and calm sea conditions. The marginally slower speed of the 90 horsepower model was attributed to additional windage from a bimini, towing pylon, and other accessories. The boat features a 15-degree deadrise at the transom, contributing to a comfortable and responsive ride with balanced cornering behavior.

Helm and Controls

The helm console is positioned on the starboard side and is designed with simplicity and functionality in mind. It includes a fixed five-spoke stainless steel steering wheel bearing the Whaler logo, a tachometer, navigation light switch, and a charging port. The all-around navigation light is stored in the bulwark below the throttle shifter and is covered by a stainless steel socket cover. The throttle and shifter are located to the right of the helm, with the ignition key positioned aft. The console offers lockable storage with a gasketed, drainable compartment beneath a heavy-duty stainless steel hinged cover. Optional helm upgrades include a three-spoked wrapped wheel, a black dash cover, and a smoke gray Lexan windshield. A footrest under the console was noted as a desirable addition for enhanced comfort.

Seating and Deck Layout

Four seating configurations are available for the 160 Supersport. The first test boat featured two 19-inch-wide bucket seats mounted 17 inches above the deck, which can rotate, with drink holders positioned between them.
