She underwent an extensive refit in 1995, when she was converted from ketch to cutter rig and received a new mast, boom, rigging and Yanmar diesel. In 1999 she got new Hood Vectran sails, a complete cockpit enclosure and numerous other upgrades. The Biggest Pros and Cons

The 1982 Bluewater Ingrid 38 is a well-regarded cruising sailboat known for its solid construction and seaworthy design. Here are some of the key pros and cons of this classic vessel:

Pros

Robust Construction: Built with a strong fiberglass hull and traditional craftsmanship, the Ingrid 38 offers durability and reliability for offshore sailing.

Seaworthy Design: With a heavy displacement and full keel, it provides excellent stability and tracking in various sea conditions, making it suitable for extended bluewater cruising.

Comfortable Interior: The layout is spacious for a 38-foot boat, featuring ample storage, a functional galley, and comfortable sleeping quarters for extended voyages.

Classic Aesthetics: The Ingrid 38 has a timeless design with graceful lines and traditional styling that appeals to enthusiasts of classic sailboats.

Good Load-Carrying Ability: Its sturdy build allows for carrying necessary cruising gear without compromising performance significantly.

Cons

Heavier and Slower: Due to its heavy displacement and full keel, the boat is generally slower compared to more modern, lighter designs, especially in light wind conditions.

Maintenance: Being a classic boat from the early 1980s, it may require more regular maintenance and updates to systems and equipment to remain in optimal condition.

Limited Modern Amenities: The original fittings and layout may lack some of the conveniences and technological advancements found in newer cruising sailboats.

Maneuverability: The full keel design, while excellent for tracking and stability, can make tight maneuvering in marinas or crowded anchorages more challenging.

Availability of Parts: Some specific parts and rigging components may be harder to source due to the boat’s age and classic status.
