This Diesel powered 1981 28' Bertram Fly-bridge Cruiser is a very well preserved fiberglass boat and a true industry classic if there ever was one. Health concerns force sale, located in West Haven, CT.
Cabin layout is a V-berth forward with a galley to port, dinette and head to starboard. Simple and easy to clean, this type of basic layout is ideal in a sport fishing boat. This Bertram 28' has a fly-bridge helm with Bimini top and huge cockpit which earned her a level of popularity, versatility and value for her excellent fishability. From the standpoint of construction and design, few production fishing boats in this size range can match the performance of the Bertram 28 in bad weather. Her seakeeping qualities are phenomenal for such a small boat. Engine access is excellent, and wide side decks make it easy to get to the foredeck.
This exemplary Bertram 28 is powered with twin Volvo TMD 40-A turbo diesel engines with approximately 1600 hours. They provide a cruising speed of 18 knots at 3200 RPM and 16 GPH burn rate. Heads, values and seats were upgraded in late 80's and turbos replaced in 2011. Engine room rewired 2006. Two new 4-D 400 amp. batteries in 2015. A pressurized water system was added in 2006. Glastech Bow Pulpit - custom fit for a 28ft. Bertram - added in 1998 with a Goode AFD-W200 Freefall Automatic Windlass - rope chain combo - added in 1999. Electronics include: Horizon Standard VHF Radio, New Garmin GPS Map 276C, LORAN Fishfinder/Depth sounder.
SAND CASTLE is a Documented vessel and originally was the Fairfield Police patrol boat where she was excellently maintained. The current owners have owned her since 1994 and have enjoyed her day fishing along Long Island Sound. Health forces sale. She's survey ready, come inspect her and make an offer!
