If you're looking for a racer/cruiser that has been well-maintained and has a great pedigree, then this is your boat. Overlap is hull #525 of 550 built and is a fine example of this French-built "Boat of the Year" winner. She is first and foremost a racer with a low handicap, top shelf sails and electronics and a great cockpit/deck layout. She also has a cruising interior and is fully equipped with 3 cabins, one head and plenty of tank capacity. Per the Practical Sailor review: "The Farr and Beneteau design teams...have produced a versatile boat that will satisfy club racers and cruisers with a penchant for speed. She's spacious and nicely finished." Overlap is in sail away condition, ready to go for the season with fresh bottom paint a recent Awlgrip paint job. Please call broker for private inspection.
From Practical Sailor's Review: "This Bruce Farr-designed speedster performs well in round-the-buoy races, yet its three-cabin interior also makes it a comfortable, seasonal cruiser. The Beneteau First 40.7 put the racer in the racer/cruiser of the early 2000s, earning her chops as a club racer or casual over-nighter. Her sumptuous belowdeck amenities work well with her racing spirit on deck. The boat’s numbers certainly suggest it has better-than-average performance compared to its peers in the cruising world. Polar diagrams indicate the potential for speeds of 6-plus knots sailing in 20 knots of breeze within 32 degrees of true wind. Predicted boat speed exceeds 12 knots when sailing in big breeze off wind.

Pros
Performance-Oriented Design: The First 40.7 features a well-balanced hull and sail plan that delivers excellent upwind and downwind performance, making it a favorite among racers and cruising sailors alike.
Comfortable Interior: For a 40-foot boat, it offers a spacious and well-designed interior with ample headroom, comfortable berths, and a functional galley, suitable for extended cruising.
Quality Construction: Built by Beneteau, the First 40.7 benefits from solid fiberglass construction and quality fittings, ensuring durability and reliability.
Good Handling: Responsive steering and a well-tuned rig make it easy to handle both short-handed and with a full crew.
Reputation and Support: As part of the popular First series, there is good availability of parts and community support.
Cons
Age Considerations: Being a 2003 model, some boats may show signs of wear and require updates or maintenance, especially in systems like electronics, plumbing, or sails.
Limited Tank Capacities: The fuel and water tanks are relatively modest in size, which may require more frequent stops on longer cruises.
Interior Layout: While comfortable, the interior layout prioritizes performance, so it may feel a bit tight or less luxurious compared to pure cruising yachts.
Cockpit Size: The cockpit is designed with racing in mind, so it may be less spacious for leisurely entertaining or larger groups.
Keel and Draft: The deeper draft options can limit access to shallow cruising grounds.
