Overview

The Barletta L25U is a luxury pontoon boat measuring 27 feet 5 inches in length with an 8 foot 6 inch beam. It is powered by Mercury's new 300 horsepower 4-stroke V8 outboard engine. The test model featured the optional Tri-Tune package, which includes a third pontoon designed to enhance performance. This sizeable pontoon boat combines spacious passenger accommodations with strong performance capabilities.

Power and Performance

Equipped with Mercury's 300 horsepower 4-stroke V8 outboard, the L25U demonstrated impressive performance during testing. With a test weight of 5,373 pounds including 48 gallons of fuel and two people onboard, the boat achieved a top speed of 47.2 miles per hour at 6,000 RPM. Its best cruise speed was recorded at 3,000 RPM, where it ran at 17.1 miles per hour while consuming 5.2 gallons per hour, yielding a fuel efficiency of 3.3 miles per gallon and an estimated range of 143 statute miles with a 10% fuel reserve. Acceleration tests showed the boat reached 20 mph in 3.8 seconds and 30 mph in 6.5 seconds. The engine’s power delivery was responsive and robust, especially when accelerating from cruising speed. Handling was notably agile, with the boat carving through turns effortlessly, aided by Mercury’s adaptive speed control and advanced range optimization features.

Exterior Features and Deck Layout

The L25U’s exterior is thoughtfully designed for both functionality and comfort. The triple pontoon setup includes 26-inch diameter tubes with two-stage lifting strakes, contributing to performance and stability. At the stern, the rigging tube neatly houses the wire harness and cables, providing clean access to hydraulic steering lines and the fuel water separator. Swim steps extend past the motor on each side, complemented by fender holders flanking a heavy-duty ski tow. The stern area also features two cup holders and the fuel fill, with a lockable storage compartment for wet tow ropes to port and a four-step ladder with sturdy handrails to starboard. Folding 5-inch cleats are positioned outboard on each side. A 15-inch wide gate secures the passage from the stern to the cockpit, with navigation locks to hold it open or closed. The deck is covered with a seagrass mat that helps keep the surface cool underfoot.

Seating and Lounge Areas

One of the standout features of the L25U is its versatile aft lounge, which measures 6 feet 6 inches long and 5 feet 1 inch wide. The lounge includes adjustable headrests and a forward backrest that can be set in multiple positions, all upholstered with diamond-pattern insets and equipped with lighted cup holders. The middle bottom cushion hinges open to provide access to batteries and electrical switches. Forward of the helm, twin reclining and adjustable chairs offer comfortable seating for the captain and passenger. Lounges on each side provide ample space for an adult to stretch out. The bow area features a 22-inch wide gate and a lounge with reclined backrests and folding armrests, suitable for relaxation. Storage is integrated throughout, including a locker in the center pontoon, compartments beneath the bow cushions, and a large glove box in the console that houses circuit breakers. Additional storage includes a wastebasket integrated into the starboard lounge hatch.

Helm and Controls

The helm console is raised 4 inches above the deck and includes a small glove box compartment at its base. It features twin SmartCraft gauges beneath a stitched leather eyebrow and a tilt steering wheel wrapped in leather. Central to the helm is Mercury’s VesselView touchscreen engine control, which allows management of the outboard’s advanced features such as active trim, adaptive speed control (cruise control), trolling, and tow control systems. To port of the wheel is a Rockford Fosgate stereo system, while illuminated accessory switches are located to starboard. Additional conveniences include a cell phone tray and a 12-volt power outlet. The Mercury 300 horsepower 4-stroke engine is compatible with both mechanical and digital controls, making it a versatile choice for repowering.

Additional Features and Summary

The L25U offers a power bimini top as an optional feature, enhancing comfort during sunny conditions. Boarding gates on the side and bow measure 23 and 22 inches wide respectively, facilitating easy access. The boat’s construction incorporates Barletta’s VIP technology, an underdeck structure designed to reduce vibration and increase structural strength.
