Overview

The Azimut Verve 40 represents a new concept for Azimut, blending outboard power with a center console design in a weekender format built on an express cruiser hull. Specifically designed for the American market, this 42-foot vessel has quickly gained popularity worldwide. It features a length overall of 42 feet, a beam of 12 feet 7 inches, a draft of 3 feet 2 inches, and a displacement of 26,180 pounds when fully fueled and provisioned.

Power and Performance

The Verve 40 is powered by three Mercury 350 horsepower Verado outboard engines as standard. Although sea conditions during the test—three to four-foot stack seas offshore—prevented a full speed trial, Azimut's engineering team reports a top speed of 40 knots. The optimal cruising speed is 35 knots at 5,300 rpm, consuming approximately 70 gallons per hour, which provides a range of 154 nautical miles and an endurance of 4.4 hours with a 10% fuel reserve from its 343-gallon tanks. Future models, starting with hull number nine, will increase fuel capacity to 475 gallons, extending the range to 236 nautical miles with the same reserve. Handling in four-foot seas proved the boat to be remarkably dry and stable, aided by a hull design featuring 15 degrees of dead rise at the transom. The Verve 40 maneuvers with agility comparable to a sports boat while maintaining the solid ride quality of an express cruiser.

Exterior Design and Helm Features

The helm is positioned to starboard but features the wheel and captain's seat aligned on the centerline for optimal control. The helm layout is ergonomic, equipped with a Raymarine suite including VHF, GPS, depth sounder, chart plotter, and dual 12-inch displays. The boat offers both a standard bow thruster and an optional Mercury joystick system, facilitating intuitive docking and close-quarters maneuvering despite the vessel's length. Visibility from the helm is excellent due to a one-piece windshield with narrow mullions and minimal hardtop supports, complemented by glass spray deflectors on either side. Three plush captain's chairs with flip-up bolsters and adjustable armrests provide comfort and elevated sightlines, aided by a teak step for easy access.

Deck and Storage

The Verve 40 features 16-inch wide teak side decks leading forward to a similarly teak-laid bow deck. Azimut has thoughtfully installed handholds throughout the vessel, enhancing safety and ease of movement. The anchor locker is discreetly integrated under a double-opening hatch in a self-draining compartment, housing a 33-pound stainless steel anchor with 130 feet of galvanized chain. The 1000-watt DC electric windlass is remote-controlled and dashboard-operated, positioned below deck to maximize usable deck space. Large mooring cleats are installed port and starboard at the bow. At the stern, two lazarette lockers provide ample storage, one of which is airtight and fitted with multiple inspection hatches and a remote-controlled fire extinguisher.

Systems and Amenities

Access to critical systems is well organized beneath the cockpit seating area, including the fuel tank, a low CO 10-kilowatt Kohler generator, and electrical equipment separated by a bulkhead. Additional hatches under the cockpit dining table provide access to fresh, gray, and black water tanks, pumps, batteries, a battery charger, an optional SeaKeeper 5AC gyro stabilizer, and hydraulic steering for each engine. The vessel is equipped with Mercury Marine active trim and Lenco auto-glide systems to maintain synchronized engine operation and automatic trim adjustments at varying speeds.

Conclusion

The Azimut Verve 40 is designed to be a versatile and seaworthy weekender that combines speed, ease of handling, and comfort. Its outboard propulsion offers advantages in maintenance, performance, and interior space utilization. With the capability to make quick offshore passages such as Miami to Bimini in under 90 minutes, the Verve 40 provides ample amenities for enjoyable weekend cruising. Overall, it delivers a compelling blend of express cruiser performance and center console convenience tailored to the American boating market.
