Azimut Fly 72: BoatTEST Review
Overview
The Azimut Fly 72 represents a significant evolution in yacht design, blending luxury with innovative features that enhance life at sea. This model stands out in its class by offering an inviting ambiance through a unique design philosophy that integrates influences from outside the traditional marine industry. The Fly 72 combines conviviality and openness with a sophisticated use of contrasting spaces, resulting in a vessel that is both elegant and functional.
Exterior Design and Layout
The Fly 72's exterior is characterized by sporty, streamlined lines that push the boundaries of contemporary yacht design. It retains the hallmark elongated horizontal architecture of the Fly series while introducing more angular and sinuous surfaces that create multifaceted curves. Notably, the main deck handrails are fully capped in fiberglass, and the flybridge handrails feature a modern matte black finish. The tinted deckhouse windows contribute to the design's lightness by blending seamlessly into matching color panels, enhancing the yacht's sleek profile.
Onboard Flexibility and Crew Accommodation
Designed with both guests and crew in mind, the Fly 72 offers exceptional freedom of movement and operational flexibility. Carefully planned passageways and a convenient side door facilitate efficient service by the two crew members accommodated in the transom area. The yacht's interior configuration is adaptable, allowing owners to choose between an enclosed galley with full-height walls and a sliding door or a high-low expanding lounge table in place of a dedicated dining area. This flexibility reflects Azimut's attention to the practical realities of life at sea, providing tailored solutions for diverse owner preferences.
Flybridge and Outdoor Living
The Fly 72 features an expanded flybridge that surpasses expectations for vessels in its class. This generous outdoor space includes a full-service American bar that can be equipped with a television, eliminating the need for convertible furniture. The rooftop layout is thoughtfully designed to offer a complete entertaining area without compromise, with ample room remaining for freestanding furniture selected by the owner. This arrangement enhances the social and leisure experience onboard.
Construction and Performance Enhancements
A key innovation in the Fly 72 is the extensive use of carbon fiber, a material Azimut has refined over the years for its ultra-lightweight and high-performance properties. Concentrated in the yacht's upper structures, this use of carbon fiber reduces weight by up to 30%, resulting in a lower center of gravity. This design choice significantly diminishes roll momentum, improving guest comfort, particularly when enjoying the flybridge area. These advancements contribute to both the yacht's aesthetic appeal and its seaworthiness.
Conclusion
The Azimut Fly 72 successfully integrates fresh design perspectives with practical innovations, reaffirming its place within the Fly series while introducing new features that enhance the onboard experience. Its combination of elegant exterior styling, flexible interior arrangements, expanded outdoor spaces, and advanced material use make it a compelling choice for owners seeking luxury and performance in a contemporary yacht.
