Azimut Atlantis: BoatTEST Review

Boat Test Review on BoatTest.com

Overview

The Azimut 51 Atlantis is a thoughtfully designed express cruiser that emphasizes comfort and seamless flow between social zones. Known for its meticulous fit and finish, this model offers a single-level main deck layout that facilitates easy movement and interaction throughout the boat. The design prioritizes both day-use enjoyment on deck and comfortable overnight accommodations below.

Exterior Design and Social Areas

The main deck begins with a well-appointed cockpit that serves as the first social zone, featuring non-skid decking and a port side settee wrapping around a high-low pedestal table made of durable synthetic marble. The upholstery uses Battle Line material, chosen for its heat resistance and breathability. Clever seating solutions include pull-out seats that can be used at the table, expanding dining capacity. Storage is abundant beneath the seats, and a 32-inch flat screen TV is mounted on an electric lift. A refreshment center with counter space, sink, refrigerator, and ice maker is conveniently located forward. Adjacent to this is a lounge area measuring 50 by 47 inches, with a flip-back cushion that creates an elevated forward-facing seat, complemented by an opening window for ventilation. The cockpit is sheltered by a six-foot-five-inch upholstered hardtop with opening side windows and a large sunroof, allowing for climate control and extended seasonal use. Behind the cockpit seating lies a triple-wide sun pad with fixed angled headrests and beverage holders. Access to the swim platform is via wide, 42-inch starboard stairs, with storage and an insulated cooler at the top. The hydraulic swim platform, 49 inches deep, can launch a tender from the garage or serve as a private beach area, all finished with the same non-skid material as the cockpit. An electric grill is positioned nearby, and port side stairs lead to the side deck. Forward on the bow is another social zone with a sun pad atop the trunk cabin, dual backrests that elevate individually into chaise lounges, beverage holders, and a concealed pull-up cabana for sun protection. Pop-up lights provide ambiance for evening use.

Interior Living Spaces

Descending solid wood stairs with glass risers and stainless grab rails leads to the lower salon and galley. The salon, located to starboard, features a C-shaped leather sofa surrounding a solid wood table with an ornate stainless grab rail and polished beverage holders. A mirrored bulkhead enhances natural light from hull side windows with opening port lights. A 40-inch flat screen TV on the centerline swivels for optimal viewing, and the ceiling is upholstered with LED lighting and integrated Bose home theater speakers. Opposite the salon, the galley is fully equipped with ample counter space, a four-burner Miele induction cooktop, a recessed sink, and plentiful storage above and below. Ventilation is supported by hull side windows with opening port lights and a range hood. Appliances include a Miele combination convection oven and microwave, a full-sized refrigerator freezer, and a dual receptacle trash bin. A pull-up power station and additional storage beneath a wood partition add to the galley’s functionality.

Private Accommodations

The master stateroom is positioned fully forward and features an island berth with access on both sides. The overhead design contrasts dark and light tones to highlight the woodwork and includes a double skylight with bug screen and blackout shade. Hull side windows with opening port lights provide natural light and ventilation. Storage is thoughtfully integrated above the windows, alongside the entry, and beneath the berth with additional compartmentalized storage. A pull-out stool accompanies a flip-down vanity, and a cleverly concealed TV is mounted behind a one-way mirror. The ensuite includes mirrored storage, a hull side window with opening port light, a vessel sink on a corner vanity, and a walk-in shower equipped with both hand wand and rainfall shower heads. Aft of the master are two guest staterooms: the VIP to starboard with twin berths that slide together to form a larger bed, mirrored bulkhead storage, a flip-up vanity, overhead storage, and a hanging locker; and the guest stateroom to port featuring over-under berths, storage above hull side windows with opening port lights, a hanging locker with mirrored door, a 24-inch TV for the upper berth, and dedicated climate control. A shared head serves both staterooms and doubles as a day head, located adjacent to a combination washer-dryer unit with doors that could benefit from a retractable design to improve companionway space.

Conclusion

The Azimut 51 Atlantis demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship and thoughtful design throughout its layout. The single-level main deck ensures smooth flow between social areas, while the interior spaces offer comfort and functionality for extended cruising. Attention to detail is evident in the choice of materials, ergonomic seating arrangements, and clever storage solutions. Minor areas for improvement include adjustable sun pad headrests and vanity mirror placement in the master stateroom, but overall, the 51 Atlantis is a well-executed express cruiser suitable for both day outings and overnight stays.
