The Azimut 55S is one of the finest sport cruisers built in the 55-foot range — a vessel that has consistently earned recognition for its progressive design, hull efficiency, and livability. This example benefits from Azimut’s most refined iteration of the 55S platform.

Construction is infused PVC foam-cored sandwich with a vinylester first laminate, backed by a 5-year osmotic blister warranty — the same construction philosophy Azimut uses on their largest superyachts. The superstructure utilizes carbon fiber composite, saving approximately 10% in topside weight versus all-GRP construction. The hull is RINA certified to CE Category B (offshore).

The deep-V hull carries 21° of deadrise at midships, softening offshore conditions and delivering a ride quality notable among sport cruisers of this length. The 15.8° aft deadrise provides lifting efficiency at planing speeds. Planes in under 15 seconds.

Born from Azimut’s legendary Sport Collection, this 2018 Azimut 55S delivers Italian design excellence and open-water performance in equal measure. The twin Volvo Penta IPS 600 pod drives (435 hp each / 870 hp combined) push this hull to 34.4 knots at WOT and cruise comfortably at 28–30 knots — while delivering approximately 20–25% better fuel efficiency than an equivalent shaft-drive installation. The infused PVC foam-cored hull carries a deep-V entry (21° midship) for a dry, controlled offshore ride, while the carbon fiber superstructure keeps topside weight in check. Below decks, the 55S delivers three full staterooms plus a crew cabin, three heads, and a saloon and galley finished to a standard more commonly seen on vessels a full class larger. The IPS 600 represents a fundamental advancement over conventional shaft-drive propulsion. Each engine is a Volvo D6, 5.5-liter in-line 6-cylinder with common-rail direct injection, twin-entry turbocharger, and intercooler — producing 435 hp / 320 kW and 772 lb-ft of peak torque. The forward-facing pod mounts below the transom, driving dual counter-rotating propellers that pull the vessel through completely undisturbed water ahead of the pod. The pods articulate 180°, eliminating the need for rudders entirely.

Key IPS advantages: approximately 20–30% fuel efficiency gain over shaft drive; 20%+ higher top speed on equivalent horsepower; joystick docking control (lateral movement, pivot in place); optional Skyhook GPS station-keeping; dramatically lower vibration and noise; no shaft, shaft log, strut, stuffing box, or cutlass bearing to maintain. Annual pod oil change and zinc inspection are the primary additional service requirements.
