The 2005 Playbuoy Somerset 22 Elite is an upscale vintage configuration of the 22-foot pontoon boat platform manufactured by Playbuoy Pontoon Manufacturing. [1]
Known for building versatile recreational craft ranging from 12 to 28 feet, Playbuoy designed its 22-foot platform to bridge the gap between casual inland family cruising and utility-driven freshwater fishing. Because the manufacturer is no longer in active production, specific archival technical overviews for the "Somerset Elite" subset must be understood through the standard technical blueprints shared across Playbuoy's standard 22-foot aluminum hull series. [1, 2]
Core Technical Specifications
- Hull Class & Material: Aluminum (AL) Pontoon [1]
- Length Overall (LOA): 22 feet [1]
- Beam Width: 8 feet [1]
- Approximate Dry Weight: ~1,730 lbs (Based on the standardized 2223 series footprint) [1]
- Fuel Type: Gas [1]
Overview & Historic Context
- Build Quality: Playbuoy hulls feature Multi-chambered aluminum pontoons engineered for high stability and a very shallow draft, making them optimal for shallow inland lakes, rivers, and day cruising. [1]
- Layout Design: The "Elite" and sister high-trim levels from this era typically featured layout updates including extended wrap-around bow lounges, a changing room, a bimini shade top, and an upgraded fiberglass helm console.
- Current Status: Playbuoy boats are no longer manufactured. Used 22-foot configurations on platforms like Boat Trader or YachtWorld normally trade as affordable pre-owned project vessels or classic family cruisers, typically ranging in value depending heavily on engine condition and vinyl restoration needs.
