Overview
The Avalon Ambassador 27 is a stylish pontoon boat distinguished by its retro aesthetic and a strong focus on entertainment and comfort. Designed with spaciousness and upscale features in mind, this model offers a versatile platform suitable for social gatherings on the water.
Exterior Design and Deck Layout
The stern of the Avalon Ambassador 27 is outfitted with standard simulated teak flooring and pop-up cleats, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal. Notably, large reboarding ladders are positioned on either side of the stern, facilitating easy access. Storage is well thought out, with a trunk to port housing the oil reservoir alongside ample additional space, while the starboard trunk contains the engine start battery and a mount for a second battery, conveniently located near the battery switch. The center-mounted gate provides cockpit access, though the gate latches were found to be somewhat awkward to operate. Seating arrangements include a chaise lounge on the starboard side with storage beneath the seat and a waist-level receptacle under the seat back, complemented by a quarter-round seat to port.
Entertainment and Helm Features
Entertainment amenities are a highlight of the Avalon Ambassador 27. A bar measuring four feet two inches by two feet is equipped with four removable pedestal stools, a self-draining insulated storage compartment with four drink holders, and an interior storage compartment accessible from both the side and front. The helm is elevated four inches above the main deck and features a single high-backed reclining Admiral's chair with ultra-soft padding and two flip-down self-leveling armrests, providing exceptional comfort. The Avenue digital engine control is mounted at a 45-degree angle, easily accessible from the armrest. Ahead of the steering wheel, covered storage is available, though the cover tended to open unexpectedly during testing. The helm instrumentation includes four Evinrude Icon gauges offering selectable information, surrounding an optional Garmin GPS moving map. Additional boarding gates are located midship to port and forward, facilitating easy access. On the starboard side, a refreshment center enhances the onboard experience with two stainless steel drawers featuring padded interiors, a stainless refrigerator drawer, an electrically actuated glass and bottle holder, and a single basin sink concealed by a removable panel. Dual lounge seats forward include storage underneath, and the port seat back offers additional glass, bottle, and ice storage.
Power and Performance
Powered by an Evinrude E-Tech 250 HO engine paired with a 15 and three-quarter by 15 inch Rebel Prop, the Avalon Ambassador 27 achieved a top speed of 42.9 miles per hour at 5750 RPM during testing. At this speed, fuel consumption was measured at 25.45 gallons per hour, yielding a range of approximately 76 miles. The most efficient cruising speed was found at 3000 RPM and 17.8 miles per hour, where fuel burn dropped to 6.75 gallons per hour, allowing for a range of 118 miles over six hours and 42 minutes while maintaining a 10% fuel reserve. The boat planes quickly, reaching planing speed in three seconds, accelerating to 20 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds, and 30 miles per hour in 8.4 seconds. The vessel rises onto plane with a level attitude, minimizing bow rise. However, during turns, speed decreases significantly, so additional power is recommended before entering turns. In choppy conditions with a 25 mile per hour wind, the boat exhibited a tendency to throw spray from the center of its length, which could result in a wet ride if the wind direction is unfavorable. Despite this, the triple-tuned hull provided a stable and solid feel with only slight vibrations when encountering waves. The boat remained level in beam seas and offered a smooth ride in following seas.

The Avalon Ambassador 27 presents a compelling combination of upscale features and a spacious entertainment platform, making it well-suited for social boating experiences.
