Until the 34 Sportsman came along, Atlantic Yachts of Palatka, FL (which went out of business in the early 1990s), had been known primarily for their line of Hargrave designed trawlers and motor yachts. It came as a surprise, then, to see the company's first new design in years fall into the sportfishing category. A popular and good-selling model, the 34 Sportsman was built on a solid fiberglass hull with a modified-V bottom, a wide beam, and generous flare at the bow. Her large bi-level cockpit was offered in several deck configurations for use as an express cruiser or sport fisherman. A centerline hatch on the bridge deck provides trouble-free access to the motors. Below, the cabin accommodations are laid out in the conventional manner with V-berths forward, an enclosed standup head with shower, small galley, and a dinette seating area. Standard big-block gas engines cruise the Atlantic 34 Sportsman at a comfortable 25 knots and reach top speeds in the neighborhood of 31-32 knots. Optional 300hp GM 8.2 diesels cruise in the mid 20s. A total of 77 Atlantic 34s were built.
